A lot of people don’t realize the dust bowl wasn’t a natural phenomenon. It happened when agrobusiness interests dramatically transformed the plains without regard for drought, and created vicious dust storms that choked whole families to death. That’s what I think of when I read about data centers.

My daughter goes to middle school 3 blocks from the statehouse. The school’s tornado evacuation plan is go to the basement. The basement flooded so they went back to the cafeteria. Kids were saying goodbye to each other. Lawmakers are building a new statehouse but not a new middle school.

I think the reason AI propagandists are so flustered by the fact that no real writer wants to use their idiotic tools is that they themselves don't enjoy writing. They see it as a boring arduous chore to be avoided, while real writers actually enjoy writing and actually care about the quality of it.

I keeping thinking about parallels between the massive shift of scientific talent from Europe to the U.S. in the 1930s and 40s to what we are seeing today. Talent that was incredibly important for the U.S. in WWII and beyond. Just look up Manhattan project and how many of the scientists fled Europe
