I see Owen Jones thinks the West shares some of the blame for Putin. Maybe he's right. Arguably, the West went too easy on Russia. No Russians were held accountable for any of the crimes of the Soviet Union, and crimes that are unpunished tend to be repeated.

I miss the old days when a disgruntled noble in a dispute with the crown would just spent a few years sulking in the Low Countries before landing at a fishing village in the south west with some Flemish mercenaries and heading for the Welsh Marches to raise his banner. Much more dignified.
