The majority of our Pine Siskins have headed a bit north to nest in the boreal forest. But we still have a few that seem to be making themselves at home. This Pine Siskin was hopping from branch to branch foraging, and seemed very intent on sticking the landing! #Birds 🪶

A pine Siskin flys in to land on a spruce tree branch. It is a small brown striped bird with glorious yellow on the undersides of its wings! The wings are spread wide to show the yellow and its head is down slightly, looking intently at where it’s about to land.’

A shoot with a dozen flowers on it. The flowers are recognizably orchid-like in shape, but smaller and less flamboyant than you'll find in a flower shop. The shoot and the bases of the flowers are red. The "tongues" (single lower petals) are white with red-purple spots. The upper petals are yellow with red edges.
