With winter on the way I'm looking very much forward to swapping 'garden time' for 'mini painting time' until spring. Two Starcraft armies to paint, a lot of Battletech WIPs to finish, and a bunch more ideas shelved over the insanely chaotic last ~18 months gonna get done.

I used my thumb to scrape some seeds out of a hungarian wax pepper making dinner last night. Hands have been washed i don't even know how many times but there's still a detectable amount of capsaicin lurking under the thumbnail. TL;DR - don't do this.

I'm almost a month into my return to the home gym. Modified everything to work around my shitty lower back. In there 5 days a week. Diet sorted. I'm not benching my bodyweight (yet) but working weights are all climbing like crazy and I *feel* strong as fuck.

I have committed to becoming gym man. This necessitates a meal plan where my ADHD having ass now has reminders set to actually eat, because I've been accidentally consuming only ~1500-1600 calories a day. I'm 5'11" with wrists 8" around. It's a miracle I haven't fucking died.

I was kind of thinking of doing a TikTok or something to reflect this. I am so tired of saying the same awful thing about cybersecurity on here hundreds of time, I'm not trying to be a gatekeeper or ahole.

I mentor young people for free. I want them to love IT and cybersecurity.

There. Are. No. Jobs. I'm soeffingtired. Cyber is full. There are no jobs.

The market has crashed. You will not get a job from a bootcamp. You will not get a career from WGU unless you did insane self study before hand. You will not get a job with a Security+ or CEH. HackTheBox and TryHackMe mean less than nothing to HR.

You had better have a Bachelors in CS from a credible school or similar. You had better have your Sec+ and CySA or OSCP. You had better be networking, doing projects, and getting top scores in CTFs. You had better have at least 2 years working in full time IT on your resume. You're competing with people with 4+ who have been laid off.

I am ready to throw fists at schools and influencers selling it otherwise. You have to fight to survive in this field these days and almost all of us have taken massive pay hits. It's not due to some magic AI. It's a rush on the field with glowing sales pitches, and a terrible global market.

Don't get into cybersecurity, or IT in general frankly, unless you have a box of torn apart computer parts on your shelf and a folder of projects on disk before even considering it. You will have to hustle. You'll get treated like crap and paid like crap. Your life will be old grey hairs like me telling you about how we got a job at a bar and you'll be finishing your 3rd 10.000 dollar cert. I can't fix that. Do it only if you love this stuff enough to deal with the unbearable market and all the shit you'll deal with for months looking for a low paid job. I see mentees in tears every single week and I am at the end of my rope.

Marvel #tokon beta impressions: game seems fun. netcode for the beta is horrible. PC port optimization is horrible. A friend and I were in a lobby on Friday night for a couple of hours. We had ~18ms ping, and the game's internal connection strength indicator gave us 5 bars. 8 frames of rollback.

Marvel #Tokon beta doesn't launch via proton, and I'm assuming that's due to easy anti cheat. A shame, because other arcsys titles I have played run great on the steam deck and linux. If by some miracle this reaches anyone who has a workaround, I'd love to hear about it.

I think I finally cobbled together a bluesky experience that mixes the right amount of 'accounts I follow' and 'other shit I might be interested in' in a single view. It's pretty simple: save some you find interesting, disable reposts in your following feed, and enable this setting:

A checked box enabling the experimental "Show samples of your saved feeds in your following feed"

Last year around August, I decided the time had come to max out my existing socket AM4 system and let the thing carry me as many years as it could for PC gaming. 5900XT and 64GB of DDR4 was minor wallet damage compared to what a modern build with similar specs would cost.
