iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

Blake Bays Photography @blakedb.photography · 15/12/2025

I had a lot of fun making these self portraits yestoday. I’ve long struggled with self-confidence, but I’m finally starting to get comfortable with who I am as a person and not worrying as much about how I’m “perceived.” I turn 34 in just a few weeks. It’s about time.

Feeling a bit “down” on my work lately, so here are some good bubbies from the weekend that make me feel better.

I didn’t realize how much I missed the flexibility of digital photography - being able to get out and do reasonable night photography this winter is going to save my mind from going insane, I swear. #photography #nightphotography #newtopographics #snow #winter #blackandwhitephotography

I’ve decided to make the switch and picked up a Z5II - I think the romanticism of film is finally lost on me as I stare at several rolls that I no longer want to even try to develop myself 🫠 (I’ll still develop them this weekend, but the extra work finally wore on me I guess)

This is fucking insane and the people ordering and carrying out these strikes need to be tried for war crimes literally as soon as possible

Under Trump, the draconian future of homelessness policy is coming into focus: mass internment. Utah is building a 16-acre site to detain up to 1,300 homeless people inside locked "accountability centers." This is profoundly alarming. Vital reporting from @ellenbarry.bsky.social and Jason DeParle:

Have I mentioned how much I love this little dude? Shout out to my friends for giving him this toy. He loved it while we were living with them temporarily, so they gave it to him as a gift so he’d have something that smelled familiar after the move. He has a bunch of new toys that get ignored now.

knock down the entire White House and put up a McMansion imho, it’s far more suited to America’s present-day values lol

So far I'm not 100% sold on the "medium format look" - like, when shallow DOF is in play it's great, *but* for general street photography it seems like F8 and above isn't really all that different from 35mm. I'll likely be reserving the C330 for more focused project work at this point.

Something that is exciting me right now is that I feel like I'm starting to move a bit past *just* street photography. I think it'll always be part of my practice (and a good excuse to get out of the house), but my perspective is changing with photography in general - now I have projects.

ICE is stockpiling arms, including chemical weapons, guided missile warheads and explosive components. The spending dwarfs anything we've ever seen in the agency - a 700% increase. The President is building an army to attack his own country.

“Dogpile” Part of my “Transitions” series that is finally coming to a close. I believe there is only one more roll to develop before creating the book for the family. #photography #photographer #documentaryphotography #documentyourlife

Nothing like getting to your first roll of 120 film and realizing you double-exposed the entire roll on accident, whoops 😅🤣

Is anyone aware of any good local pottery shops in #columbus where I can get some nice mugs? It looks like almost all the shops I’m seeing are where we paint our own mugs, but I’m interested in supporting a local artist if possible. #columbusohio #columbusoh

Found a Mamiya C330 “World of Photography” in Columbus and decided it was time to try out #mediumformatfilm - happy with the negatives (and can’t believe the size difference) - we’ll see how I feel after the scans, though. #photography #streetphotography #streetphoto #blackandwhitephotography

Went to #ohiorennisancefestival today - got sunburnt to hell and back like a dumbass, but I hopefully came away with some fun photos. It was a good test for the new-to-me- Canonet, I have a few rolls to develop tomorrow and I’m excited to see the results!
