#AnnieAbrahams, the artist I've learned so much from, both in art and in life, is having a retrospective in the Netherlands! ➠ Ver Ver . Binding – the retrospective exhibition of @anniea.bsky.social, Kunstwerk Kolderveen, Nijeveen, 10 Oct - 28 Nov 2026 www.kunstwerkkolderveen.nl/exhibitions/...
A pixelated grayscale portrait of Annie Abrahams fills most of the image, overlaid with bright yellow and orange flame-like shapes around the face and head. On the left are two small grayscale portrait images. On the right, two stacked computer interface panels titled “Command Igor instead of Annie” and “Command Annie instead of Igor” display lists of text commands, including phrases such as “tell igor to sit,” “tell me how you love igor,” “forget commands,” “bark,” and “dance.” The image resembles a screenshot of an experimental early web artwork or interactive interface.

The interior of a traditional French café or restaurant with exposed stone arches, patterned wallpaper, wooden furniture, and a tiled floor. A large ornate brass chandelier with multiple lit lamps hangs prominently from the ceiling. Shelves, framed pictures, a chalkboard menu, crockery, and numerous wooden tables and chairs fill the warmly lit room.A narrow cobblestone street in Lyon, France, lined with tall historic buildings in warm ochre and beige tones. Traditional wall-mounted lanterns project over the street, and a blue street sign reads “PLACE NEUVE SAINT-JEAN.” On the left, a red storefront bears the name “ARMADA.” People sit outside cafés farther down the street beneath a clear blue sky.An outdoor café setting on a cobblestone courtyard in Lyon. Yesterday, I saw the ten-hour performance by Carolina Bianchi: Trilogia Cadela Força / Trilogy of Bitches (trilogie intégrale / complete trilogy – Chapters I, II and III) at the Odéon Théâtre de l’Europe as part of the Festival d'Automne in Paris. www.festival-automne.com/en/edition-2...
A large group of performers stands in a line onstage, bending forward in unison toward the audience. They wear mostly red, blue, black, and pink clothing. Behind them is a large black-and-white projected image combining handwritten text, drawings, and a dark central figure. The ornate gold-and-red interior of the theater surrounds the stage, while a large audience watches and applauds. The exterior of the Odéon Théâtre de l’Europe in Paris, a grand neoclassical building with tall stone columns and ornate architectural details. Three large red banners hang between the columns, listing artists and performers. Above them, black fabric banners display the words “CADELA” and “FORÇA” in large white handwritten letters. French and European flags fly from the roof.A group of performers stands shoulder to shoulder across the stage, with their arms around one another after the performance. They wear predominantly red, blue, and black clothing. Behind them is a large black-and-white backdrop covered with handwritten text, diagrams, drawings, and a dark central figure. A small white-and-blue figure is visible among the performers near the right side of the group.

A large illuminated fountain rises from a lake at dusk, with multiple tall and curved jets of water forming a sculptural, crown-like shape. The fountain is brightly lit from below and reflected on the calm water. A dark shoreline and distant hills are visible beneath a cloudy blue evening sky.A large white typographic installation reading “KUNST MACHT GELD” is displayed on a blue window or glass panel. Reflections of a construction crane, trees, buildings, and the photographer are visible across the glass. A wooden frame or structure stands to the left of the text.A tall rectangular apartment building with a repetitive grid of windows and balconies rises against a clear blue sky. A dark sculpture of a rearing horse stands on the roof at the upper left corner of the building.A modern concrete apartment building viewed from below, with wide projecting balconies arranged in horizontal layers. On Monday, I'll kick off the summer school in Zurich with my keynote lecture – Instituting Supervision: Between Care and Study. — The Doctoral Supervisors' Summer School, 17-21 August 2026, 3rd Cycle Research, hosted by Zurich University of the Arts, Institute for the Performing Arts and Film (IPF).
Graphic with a two-column layout in pale yellow and ochre. On the left, a coral rectangle at the top contains the large number “3” and the heading “3rd Cycle Research – Institute for the Performing Arts and Film.” Below is a paragraph describing 3rd Cycle Research at the Institute for the Performing Arts and Film (IPF) as a dynamic, peer-to-peer research community supporting experimental artistic and art-based research, creative encounters, critical thinking, new forms of knowledge creation, and transdisciplinary collaboration.

On the right, on an ochre background, black text identifies the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, Department Darstellende Künste und Film (DDK), Institute for the Performing Arts and Film (IPF), Zürich, followed by “ZHdK PhD Centre.” The lower section displays the ZHdK logo and the text “Zürcher Hochschule der Künste / Zurich University of the Arts.”

We stopped in Karlsruhe and visited ZKM, where we saw the surprisingly intelligent and subtle Silver Egg exhibition and, of course, the ever-inspiring permanent collection. By the way, after many years, we got to see Stelarc's Exoskeleton again!
A selfie of two visitors standing inside ZKM Karlsruhe. On the left, a bald man with a short white goatee wears a black Adidas T-shirt and oversized round black sunglasses with bright turquoise lenses. On the right, a woman with short brown hair and blue-framed glasses smiles at the camera, wearing a light blue striped shirt over a dark top. Behind them is a large illuminated welcome sign displaying "Willkommen", "Welcome", and "Bienvenue" beneath the ZKM Karlsruhe logo.A large transparent spherical vessel, about the size of a person, is partially filled with vivid green liquid. Condensation covers the inside of the dome, while thick transparent tubes and polished metal pipes connect to the front of the structure, giving it the appearance of a futuristic laboratory device or bioreactor. The installation is displayed in a spacious gallery with wooden parquet flooring.Stelarc's Exoskeleton robotic installation fills a dark gallery space. The large metallic machine resembles a giant six-legged spider, with articulated hydraulic legs extending from a central circular platform. A tall framework rises from the center, carrying cables, sensors, and mechanical arms. Bright spotlights highlight the silver structure, casting dramatic shadows across the parquet floor and black walls.A digital artwork composed of five rectangular screens arranged in an irregular vertical formation against a black wall. The displays show luminous white particle clouds swirling across deep blue backgrounds, creating abstract, fluid forms that appear to flow seamlessly from one screen to the next. The minimalist presentation emphasizes the glowing motion and fragmented composition.

The theatre festival of the world's best students is about to begin! 💥 Rough Proposals – Giessen, 25-27 June 2026 instagram.com/rough_propos... Institute for Applied Theatre Studies – JLU Gießen, Hessische Theaterakademie, Goethe-Universität Frankfurt, Stadttheater Gießen instagram.com/atw_cup
Poster for the theatre festival Rough Proposals. The predominantly white design features faint vertical grid lines across the entire background. At the top left, large black serif text reads: “25–27 June” and beneath it, “Theaterlabor and Strahlenzentrum.” Along the top right are several institutional logos, including ATW Institut für Angewandte Theaterwissenschaft, Justus Liebig University Giessen, Hessische Theaterakademie, Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, and Stadttheater Giessen. In the centre, the festival title dominates the composition. The word “PROPOSALS” appears in very large black serif letters, overlaid on the word “ROUGH” in oversized grey capitals behind it, creating a layered typographic effect. Near the lower left, the names Azahara Sanz Jara, Verena Götsch, Denise Lim, Frederik Schnellinger, and Lucia Nacht are listed in black serif type. On the lower right are Emilia Pujadas, Jiyoung Yoo, Julian Sorter, Helen Wernitz, and Tong Yang Cresta. The bottom section contains loose, sketch-like line drawings in grey and black. On the left is an abstract face with visible eyes and ear; in the centre, a minimalist face with closed eyes and short strokes suggesting hair; on the right, a spiral-shaped form resembling an eye or shell merging into a profile. The overall aesthetic is experimental, combining bold typography with hand-drawn, unfinished imagery.

Every day is International Women's Day! ("Militarism on Trial", Frankfurt, 1914. Rosa Luxemburg was prosecuted for her anti-militarist speech and for agitating against the military. The caricature depicts the trial through an inverted perspective: Rosa is the one putting militarism on trial.)
A black-and-white political caricature from 1914 titled "Militarism on Trial." In the center background, Rosa Luxemburg stands behind a raised podium, pointing an accusing finger toward the foreground. Below her, a military officer in a pointed helmet sits with his back to the viewer on a bench labeled "Anklagebank" (Defendant's Bench). Between them, two rows of benches labeled "Zeugenbank" (Witness Bench) are filled with skeletons wearing military uniforms, facing each other. Two court officials are seated at the desk next to Luxemburg, appearing to take notes. The scene is framed by a formal courtroom setting, creating a powerful visual reversal where the anti-war activist acts as the prosecutor of the military.

Overhead view of ten people arranged loosely in a circle on a dark, matte floor, each lying or crouching close to the ground in a curled or resting position. Their bodies face inward toward the center, leaving an empty circular space between them. Clothing varies in muted and earthy colors, including dark green, black, gray, light blue, patterned fabrics, and one bright orange shirt that stands out near the bottom of the image. Some people lie on their sides with knees bent, others kneel or lie flat with arms folded under their heads. Soft, natural light enters from the top left, creating gentle highlights and shadows on the floor and emphasizing the stillness and contemplative mood of the scene.

Center panel: A close-up of Friedrich Nietzsche’s grave, a horizontal stone slab with gold-colored engraved text reading: “FRIEDRICH NIETZSCHE, 15 OCTOBER 1844 – 25 AUGUST 1900.” The stone lies flat on the grassy ground with dappled sunlight and some moss in the engraved letters. Right panel: A gray statue of a naked male figure with an exaggerated mustache, resembling Nietzsche. The figure stands upright in a grassy yard, holding a round object in front of its lower body. Trees and a red-roofed building are visible in the background.Wider garden view: A broader view of the house where Nietzsche was born in Röcken, Saxony-Anhalt. The old building has ivy growing along its wall and several windows with faded wooden shutters. A bench sits near the entrance, which is partially obscured by a large tree. The surrounding yard is grassy, with flowers, potted plants, and a rustic outbuilding in the background. A few tables and a red cart are seen in the distance, suggesting a quiet, rural setting.

With doctoral students after the lecture. 🌬️ Early spring in Venice just hits different – a bit of winter's chill still hanging around, but you can already feel the promise of new beginnings in the air.
A group of eleven people is gathered in an outdoor courtyard with stone pavement. They are standing in front of a rustic pink building with tall windows, framed by two leafless trees. The group is diverse in age and style, wearing a mix of casual and stylish clothing, with some donning scarves, hats, and jackets. Many are smiling and posing closely together, reflecting a warm and friendly atmosphere. One person is crouching in the front while others stand behind them. The yellow tote bag and bright blue skirt add pops of color to the otherwise muted background.A narrow Venetian canal winds through historic buildings with warm-toned facades and green shutters. Small boats, some covered with blue tarps, line the canal. A red fire hydrant stands on the right side of the stone walkway. In the distance, a small arched bridge crosses the canal. The calm water reflects the architecture and the soft overcast sky, creating a serene and picturesque scene.Venetian canal winds through buildings with warm-toned facades. Small boats line the canal. The church of Santa Maria della Vittoria was just around the corner from my hotel, so I popped in to say hi to Teresa of Ávila, just to check if she's still in ecstasy. 💥 And thanks to everyone who came to my book event in Rome yesterday, it was such a good time! phd.uniroma1.it/web/artist-a...
The sculpture over the altar shows Saint Teresa of Ávila, a Spanish Carmelite nun (1515–1582), swooning in a state of religious ecstasy, while an angel holding a spear stands over her, following her own account of a vision she had. A marble sculpture of an angel and a reclining woman, set against a dramatic backdrop of golden rays. The angel, with flowing hair and large wings, holds a golden arrow and looks down tenderly at the woman. The woman, draped in flowing robes, tilts her head back with an expression of ecstasy or surrender. The golden rays fan out behind them, creating a heavenly atmosphere. The detailed carving of the figures' faces, clothing, and posture captures a sense of movement and emotion. Location: The church of Santa Maria della Vittoria, Rome, Italy. Sculpture: Ecstasy of Saint Teresa by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, High Roman Baroque, 1652.

Framed dot patterns: A framed artwork featuring two columns of meticulously arranged black dots and circles on a beige background. The dots vary in size and opacity, forming a structured, grid-like pattern. The frame is wooden with a simple, natural finish. Other similar framed artworks are partially visible around it on a white gallery wall.A beige vintage dot matrix printer sits on top of a white pedestal, continuously printing on perforated computer paper that cascades down onto the floor. The printout contains dense lines of text, giving the appearance of an endless stream of data. The artwork is displayed in an industrial-style space with a dark wooden floor, contrasting with the stark white pedestal. The piece evokes themes of automation, information overload, and the passage of time in digital communication.Pong installation: A retro-style art installation featuring a grid of vintage CRT monitors, many displaying the word "PONG" in bright blue text. The text is slightly slanted and irregular. Above this, in smaller white text, the event duration is stated: "24 HOURS" "4.3.25 13:00 – 5.3.25 13:00". Below the main title, in a smaller, italicized, white handwritten-style font, is the theme: "CARE IN TIMES OF DARKNESS". Ἐγρήγορει, ὦ τέχνη! ~ The Epidaurus Theater at the Sanctuary of Asklepios
A woman with shoulder-length dark hair, wearing black sunglasses, a dark green sweater, and black pants, stands in the center of the ancient Epidaurus Theater at the Sanctuary of Asklepios in Greece. She has both arms raised towards the sky, with an expression of triumph or theatrical performance. The sun shines brightly behind her, casting a dramatic shadow on the gravel ground, which resembles the silhouette of a bird with outstretched wings. The massive stone seating of the theater rises behind her, partially filled with visitors scattered throughout. The sky is a mix of bright blue and fluffy white clouds, adding depth and contrast to the scene. A low stone railing separates the person from the seating area, and a narrow path leads directly to where they are standing.

A group of people are participating in an interactive art installation or workshop in a spacious indoor setting with a modern, curved ceiling and a mezzanine with metal railings. The floor is light gray, and the walls are mostly white. Participants are engaged in various creative activities, sitting or standing on the floor, surrounded by an intricate web of strings, yarn, and paper materials. The strings crisscross the entire room, connecting people and objects, creating a chaotic but structured network. In the foreground, a woman with dark hair tied back is sitting cross-legged, wearing a black T-shirt with white text that reads "IN BLACK." She is weaving or manipulating the strings and papers around her. Next to her, another woman with long, wavy brown hair, wearing a dark green sweater and black pants, is also working with the materials, seated on the floor. There are magazines and newspapers scattered around them, with visible colorful images and text, though the specific words are not fully readable. To the right, a woman in a white T-shirt and blue jeans sits with her back to the camera, working on a project. Beside her, another person in black clothes is kneeling on the floor, using a wooden board, possibly for crafting. Dried flowers and small objects are connected to the strings. In the background, more participants are engaged in similar activities. A woman in a black tank top and jeans is standing near a stage-like area, twisting pieces of paper or fabric into the network of strings. Another woman with blonde hair, wearing a black vest, is also attaching materials to the structure. A man dressed in black stands near the staircase, observing the scene. The atmosphere suggests an artistic or community-based project focusing on connection and collaboration, with participants actively creating something together using unconventional materials.

The image shows an art installation in a gallery, where a large textile artwork is hung on a white wall. The textile piece is an embroidered map, likely representing a city or region, with roads and rivers stitched onto a cream-colored fabric. The roads are embroidered in shades of brown and orange, while the rivers and water bodies are in blue. Various labels and annotations in red thread mark specific locations, streets, or landmarks. A small group of people is gathered around, observing the artwork. One woman in a camel-colored coat, carrying a black bag, stands in the foreground with her back to the camera. Another woman in dark clothing is engaged in conversation with a man, who has a short beard and is also dressed in dark clothing. On the right side of the artwork, there are two small white placards with text, likely providing information about the piece or the artist, though the text is too small to read in the image. The gallery space is minimalist, with white walls and wooden flooring, allowing the artwork to stand out prominently. A security camera is mounted on the ceiling, monitoring the exhibition space. The textile map is affixed to the wall with small black clips along the top edge.
