Well I guess not many lol but I would think some mecha fans would be interested by the "co-directed by Anno and Izubuchi" part

∀ Moth @bisexualmothman.bsky.social · 10h

Why have I not seen anyone on here talking about this??

Oh wait Dandivine starts this week too huh I'm still very skeptical that that one will be any good but I do wanna give it a shot just because it's a new original mecha anime

I wanted to come up with a term in the vein of Suletta Sunday or Machuesday for Rayearth Wednesdays but I've got nothing

an alarming number of people on the gundam subreddit seem to expect banagher to show up in hathaway 3. an alarming number also actually want banagher to show up in hathaway 3

so in the rayearth manga, they literally lie to Ferio and manipulate him into becoming their bodyguard. But in the anime, Ferio immediately offers to be their bodyguard and they turn him down and try to run away from him lol

Screenshots from the Magic Knight Rayearth anime (1994).

Hikaru: "He's still following us."

Fuu: "That can't be! Let's throw him off."

I've now finished Magic Knight Rayearth Part 1. And it was so good!! The art is absolutely gorgeous. It's a very straightforward story but it's charming and the last bit injects a lot more complexity into it... and it has big robot. My favorite character was Fuu I'll read part 2 next weekend

Two pare spread from Magic Knight Rayearth of a giant winged robot with a glowing energy sword.

If you think about it magic knight rayearth is the sequel to the ones who walk away from omelas

I like how, as their weapons and armor keep evolving, Hikaru and Umi's sword keep getting more and more ornate, but Fuu's sword looks exactly the same except it just keeps getting longer every time lol

A two page spread from Magic Knight Rayearth of the theee magic knights with newly upgraded weapons and armor. Hikaru and Umi's swords have really ornate hilts and jewels embedded in thr blade and stuff. But every time this has happened, Fuu's sword has just gotten longer.

One thing that sucks about reading this series digitally is that I don't get to see the two page spreads properly put together. They've had these gorgeous spreads everytime they awaken one of the robots that do a really good job showing the scale of them

Two page spread from Magic Knight Rayearth of Hikaru standing in next to her new rune god (cool giant robot) Rayearth. I had to manually take pictures and stitch it together because my ereader only shows one page at a time even for two page spreads.

The panelling and page composition in the series is really good!! Look at how much impact this middle panel has, they way the action lines and sfx spill out over the bottom of the page because the trajectory of Hikaru's slash is downward

A page from Magic Knight Rayearth. Hikaru is in a fierce swordfight. She jumps down from a high place and bears down on her opponent with her sword while shouting "We're gonna go home to Tokyo together! All three of us!" The panel of her sword striking her opponent's sword is the middle row of the page but the action lines and sound effects spill out into the margins, all the way to the bottom of the page, going behind the bottom row of panels showing people's reactions to this attack.

we mixin chibis with normal proportions now

Panel from Magic Knight Rayearth. A normally proportioned Fuu is putting her hands on the shoulders of a slightly chibi cat earrd Hikaru.

AND THEN THAT FEELING IS WHAT CAUSES THE DRAGON GOD TO TRANSFORM INTO A GIANT ROBOT IT"S SO GOOD

Pages from Magic Knight Rayearth.

Umi: "My armor changed again! And my sword too..."

Umi (looking at the dragon design on the hilt of her newly-transformed sword): "...A dragon"

Then the Rune God (a big dragon) begins to glow.

The Rune God has transformed into a giant robot.

Umi: "A... a robot?"

Rune God: "But thy heart... is not yet ready to don me. When thou hast awakened as a true Magic Knight. I will reveal myself again to thee."

The last Julie bot that I got in my notifications specifically had that she was straight in her bio but I just saw someone else's screenshot of a Julie bot with the exact same bio except she's bi now

I had heard that there are eventually mecha later in this series, and I was under the impression that that was kinda a twist but they have just like very explicitly teased that they're coming multiple times, and the anime just straight up shows them in the OP

I do still wanna watch the old anime though. I really liked the direction and pacing in the first episode

∀ Moth @bisexualmothman.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

oh yeah I decided I just gotta read the rayearth manga bc I just won't have time to finish the old anime before the new anime comes out at this point but I might have time to finish the manga

∀ Moth @bisexualmothman.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

I was only intending to watch the first ep or two of the original Rayearth anime and then switch over to the manga bc I read a bit of the manga months ago and wanted a refresher but I just got my vaccimes and my head hurty so I might just watch this like dubbed. I'm enjoying the vibes a lot already

i'm watching turn A gundam and enjoying the thought of how each side would react in their different social forums

a digital illustration in the style of an old political cartoon, labelled "the dark side of the moon". there is a WaDom holding a chunk of "Amerian Land", saying "won't you extend the olive branch?" the WaDom is drawn with cloven hooves and a pointed tail. an earther woman remarks "they are great only in size"

a fake social media post by a user named "Lieutenant Ord's left lens" (handle: "memesaber"). it's a meme with a badass guy holding two rifles surrounded by explosions, captioned "how earther soldiers feel right before being turned into a smell by a mega particle cannon"

Especially for this kit bc it has a big pointy thing sticking out over the eye so the eye will almost never catch the light. The kinda shiny plastic they used stands out even when in shadows. It looks good

∀ Moth @bisexualmothman.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

Ok I am a fan of eye runner Idk if you can really see the difference on camera but this looks way better than the normal eye sticker for HG monoeyes

The head and torso of HG Messer Type-M01 gunpla kit. The monoeye is a slightly shiny pink piece of plastic instead of the pink sticker that monoeyes for HG kits usually get.
