I'm noticing the music more in this episode. I like it, especially this one

The OP is aight. A few two many still frames for my liking but it's got all the iconic rayearth imagery. I like how you just barely see glimpses of the rune gods I like these stills where they hit the poses from the volume covers of the manga though

Even though this design is a lot stubbier than the Type-F01, it's still not as stubby as the original novel Messer design Look at how big the head on the novel design

The original lineart for the Messer from the Gundam Hathaway's Flash novels. It's really stubby.

Good morning today is my birthday :0

A photo of a ringed seal sitting on a tile floor and looking at a laptop, but the laptop is edited to be showing the OP of Magic Knight Rayearth (1994).

Personally, I think Jobin Higashikata is the Roaring Knight Toby Araki wouldn't have set him up as so important if he wasn't going to be a major player in the plot. Trust me, after this wonder of u mini-arc he's gonna get back up and we know the next chapter's dark world is in the Higashikata manor

Jobin Higashikata from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 8: JoJolion, definitely not a Deltarune character.

I've now finished Magic Knight Rayearth Part 2 and it was really good!! It's a more downbeat story than part 1 but I like that. Rayearth as a whole is like a top 5 of all time manga for me now I genuinely don't mean this as a negative but it's a lot messier than part 1.

Panel from Magic Knight Rayearth Part 2. Hikaru is clenching her fist and determinedly saying "Then you'll be just like Princess Emeraude!" as her hair and cape flap in the wind.

Sorry I was locked in for the entire climax of Rayearth Part 2 and didn't stop to post but that shit ruled!! I basically predicted what the solution to the main dilemma they kept brooding over in part 2 was gonna be but that's just because it's a really good conclusion that ties everything together

An incredible page from Magic Knight Rayearth Part 2 showing the three magic knights and their combined rune god creating a new world by sharing the burden of the will to keep the world together so one person does not have to suffer alone.

This is *kinda* a shin megami tensei plot like nocturne or V

Mysterious voice speaking through Mokona: "The time has come to choose the new pillar of Cefiro."

"Only the one possessing the greatest strength of heart- one who will use that strength to build a new future for Cefiro- is worthy of becoming the pillar."

The Mashin change is just forever now I think. Here's a character from Cefiro who would've said Rune God before saying Mashin They just changed their minds between Part 2 vol 1 and Part 2 vol 2 I guess I'm fine with calling them Mashin, but like they had already made a stylistic choice on this

I did not think this would be an intentional plot point. That's cool

A conversation from Magic Knight Rayearth Part 2.

Fuu: "Clef-san is the guru... Presea-san is the pharle... Ascot-san is a palu. Those are all words in Cefiro's language."

Ascot: "She's right."

Fuu: "That makes us, the Magic Knights the only ones with a title in English."

Ferio: "In-glish?"

Umi: "It's a language from another country in our world."

Fuu: "Is it because some people from our world who were summoned by a previous pillar... gave themselves that name?"

I love the Autozam sci-fi glasses with dangly wires It's very Shin Megami Tensei 1

Panels from Magic Knight Rayearth Part 2. Eagle is wearing big opaque, stylish glasses with various sci-fi HUD elements on them. They also have wires sticking out of one side.

And now, within the same scene, she is Aska again. The Mashin inconsistency lasted for the entire scene iirc

San-Yun calls her Lady Aska here, a few pages later.

∀ Moth @bisexualmothman.bsky.social · 11/10/2026

Ok what the fuck is up with the translation in rayearth part 2? Earlier there was one scene where they used the original japanese term "mashin" when otherwise they've always used "rune god" And now Aska has become Asuka. Either choice is fine in both cases but why is it suddenly inconsistent??

Page from Magic Knight Rayearth Part 2 (the relatively recent Kodansha English translation specifically, which is relevant in this case). Zaz says "That Mashin just infiltrated the road that eagle made!" "Mashin" is the original Japanese term for the main characters's mecha, but up until this point, across both parts 1 and 2, they have always used the translated term "Rune God" in this translation.

I thought this was odd at the time but didn't mention it because I rationalized that maybe they're intended to be using a different term because these characters are from another country and maybe for some reason using the original japanese term made the most sense.

Another page in the next volume. This time, the character who has consistently been referred to as "Lady Aska" is now being referred to as "Lady Asuke".

not that I'm complaining but when did this become the gay boy series??

Panels from Magic Knight Rayearth Part 2.

Eagle: "I've just made... a decision myself."

Lantis: "...About what?"

Eagle (doing his stupid fucking annoying twink smile (positive)): "I'm not telling".

the farther I get into this manga, the more I'm starting to wonder if the comparison to Omelas is actually intentional

Panel from Magic Knight Rayearth Part 2. Umi is saying "One person's happiness doesn't matter as long as everyone else is happy. It's messed up."

∀ Moth @bisexualmothman.bsky.social · 11/10/2026

Good morning I am finishing this weird fuckin trilogy today!!

The cover art for three pieces of media in a row:

"The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas" by Usrula K. LeGuin.

"Magic Knight Rayearth" (the 1994 anime series).

"Magic Knight Rayearth 2" (the 1995 anime series).

weird ass trilogy.

The cover art for Omelas shows an abstract image of a human head looking vaguely dismayed at the center of a utopian city.

The cover art for Rayearth 1 shows three anime girls with swords in a fantasy world.

The cover art for Rayearth 2 shows those three girls standing on the shoulder of a giant mecha.

These two and Lantis have some kind of fuckass gay drama going on

Panels from Magic Knight Rayearth Part 2. Geo is staring intently at Eagle and Eagle is just giving a stupid little grin. These are the guys from Autozam, the sci-fi invading kingdom.

Everyone is being so mean to the djinn :(( They're just silly little guys but everyone's calling them gross because they drank Umi's water dragon attack
