Turns out that if you are an old lady with a banner supporting Palestine, the government arrests you on charges of terrorism. If you are a masked white male thug bringing a national port to a standstill, the government does absolutely nothing, and the media covers it like some lads on a day out.

Provisional Met Office data shows this summer was the hottest ever on record. Thousands of deaths due to dangerous heat. Crops destroyed by drought. Homes threatened by fires. Labour must not approve Rosebank or Jackdaw in this new climate chaos. No new oil and gas.

It's encouraging that today, the Prime Minister will chair a meeting of COBR. Extreme heat, drought and wildfires are only part of the picture. This is what we would like to see on the agenda: www.nebriefing.org/cobr-agenda.... #NationalEmergencyBriefing #TimeToStepUp

This burning summer is the proof: the voices of climate denial aren’t just delusional, they’re deadly | Sadiq Khan
Look at our blazing forests and parched cities. Green policies aren’t a ‘luxury’, and we can’t burn more oil and gas. People need the truth, says London mayor Sadiq Khan

Is “pragmatic” the new, “grown up” word? Andy, there’s nothing “pragmatic” about drilling for more oil & gas - to even consider it with the planet literally on fire is total madness. How many times must we say it will do nothing for energy bills or security? It would be an act of utter recklessness

Today's Climate Change Committee report warns our way of life is under threat from heat, flooding, and drought. The Government must take concrete steps to protect people's lives and introduce a Climate Protection Unit in Number 10.
Quote graphic, quoting Green MP Adrian Ramsay saying "The most fundamental duty of any government is to keep the public safe, and yet today’s CCC report shows we are sleepwalking towards catastrophe and the government is failing to meet the moment. That is why today I am calling on the Prime Minister to establish a dedicated Climate Protection Unit in Number 10, with the sole purpose of working cross-department to drive forward the recommendations in this report."

A reminder of the facts that should be dominating the debate about energy policy, but which so much of the media ignores. Our world is frighteningly close to tipping points which would turn the climate emergency into a climate catastrophe. The transition away from fossil fuel must accelerate.

I just signed the Greenpeace petition calling on the government to power the UK with homegrown renewables. Every conflict abroad sends our energy bills soaring at home. The only way out is cheaper, safer renewable energy. Will you join me in demanding an end to the fossil fuel cost chaos?
