We determined structures with and without activating membrane lipid, phosphatidylserine (PS). Working with the Smith lab, we use a combination of methods to propose a mechanism whereby PS stabilizes and induces conformational changes in receptor:ligand complexes to promote kinase domain activation.

And… I am SO excited to share the first research preprint from my group! In this paper we determined several cryoEM structures to visualize the entire cell-to-cell bridging complex formed by TAM receptor and ligand, bringing into 3D a common graphical depiction. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

My first ever BPS conference was more than a success!! I gave a talk, presented a poster, networked with potential postdoc mentors, made new science friends, schemed with the lab tech in the exhibitor halls, dilly dallied and explored San Fran with my lab and friends #BPS2026

A problematic stance from someone like @holdenthorp.bsky.social who has the position & privilege that comes with being Editor-in-Chief of Science Journals. Yes, scientists need to continue to do science. But science leaders can't leave the risk that comes with speaking up to others. 🧵1/8

This is when I was gone, they put a pic of me so I could be there for the potluck… I love them 😭😭😭

It bears repeating that nearly the entire US enterprise in science and technology has been irreversibly gutted. This is shocking. All this loss has occurred without any real benefit to the average US citizen. Except we now have the biggest, best funded secret police force perhaps ever. Yay for us!

IMO I’ve slowly learned that there are no “failures” in research, only information you gather. Negative data isn’t failure — it just tells you this path isn’t it, and reroutes you to a different story, perspective, or line of thought. What is failure, anyway? Just a new direction

Saw a science content creator (and fellow PhD student at UNC) say that grad school really teaches you to become desensitized to failure in one of her vids. She framed that as a privilege — and it really is. So many people are afraid to try something new because of fear of failure…

Status and material things are empty vessels. Two imposters we often feel define us. We live in a society that pushes them as the definition of success. Real success - and true growth - is measured in our ability to be kind, humble, and selfless. May your week ahead be peaceful, my friends. 😊 #life

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE. This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined. It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

There are 2 previous historical cases of countries destroying their science and universities, crippling them for decades: Lysenkoism in the USSR and Nazi Germany. The Trump administration will be the 3rd. It's not just budgets but research, institutions, expertise, and training the next generation.
Graphs showing 25 years of budgets for the National Institute of Health, NASA, and the NSF. In all cases, the proposed budget for next year is far, far below any year of the previous quarter century.
