I am in the same boat. Learning how to use it. We are along the coast so lots of fog. So dont get as much practice. But clear nights are outstanding bortle 4. Just learned autofocus on a bright star. And check seestar facebook page. Quite good

We had a really clear night with the autumn heat spell. Ideal night to capture M33 the Triangulum galaxy, 3 million light years away. Stacked 90 min exposure. Will try and add more stacks in the future

Adventures in the East Bay Wildland Urban interface. This morning we found a dead deer in our backyard. Despite the many thousands of dollars we pay for property i learned that we now need to pay $225 for the county to remove it It will be hot and i worry it will attract decomposers

This Chart is striking. Strongest El Nino’s on record VS the forecasts from our best seasonal models. Historically the strongest El Nino’s dating back 170 years peaked with a monthly ocean anomaly in the mid-high 2’s. Now 9 of 10 of our national models have 4°C + for late fall. #elnino 1/

We have a personal connection to the Running Fence. My grandparents operated a dairy near Valley Ford. Their property was the location of the infamous Gaver Gap. Yesterday we were able to get a swath of the fence's fabric. The piece my Mom had was lost, like my baseball cards 😊

Now that the summer peak is behind us, we can confidently conclude that 2024 will retain its title for warmest day on record, with 2023 coming in 2nd and 2026 coming in a close 3rd. August was nonetheless the warmest month on record, as a growing El Nino event adds to steady ongoing warming.

Ah California and its microclimates. We dont have ac as our weather is often moderate by cool winds coming through the Golden Gate. Tonight is an exception. Tmax was 100 F. And now there is a 10 F gradient between the bottom of the Berkeley Hills to the top, over a distance of about a mile!
