He could not force it to. He couldn't.

And he hears—feels—the way her breath catches, the way her body goes still in surprise.

He forges on regardless.

"Tell me to stay, and I will." He says again, his words near babbling; breathless even, spoken with a flood of emotion that he knows is quite beyond him to control— "Tell me... tell me you'll miss me, and you'll hate to see me go. That my absence will hurt you, that it will break us both, and I will bound myself to you and never leave. I won't."

As Erenville let out what sounded like a low huff of laughter at her words, and it's enough to draw sapphire bright hues towards him; her dark gaze studying his facade with an interest that veered on the side of just a little bit too keen, and really, how could she help herself? The man was unfairly pretty, in ways that he never even had to try.

Why, they were in the middle of the drylands, sweat clinging to skin and dehydration more than imminent if they didn't try for proper shelter soon, and here she was: parched and a little lightheaded, with Erenville exuding the kind of look that could make any woman's mouth water.

It doesn't help, of course, that she's been with him enough to know exactly what that desire tastes like.
