Before the Noise: Tuesday = Beauty. Irish writer, poet, and artist @daraghfleming says this is his most requested poem — and when you listen, you’ll understand why.It is fierce and tender all at once. These are just a few lines:“If I ever have girls, they’ll be feared by weak men…”“They’ll be gentle and kind while breaking every glass ceiling…”“They’ll take up space and like what they like. They won’t be taught to reduce themselves or hide…”😭😭😭Art that tells the truth. Art that raises the bar. Art that imagines a braver, more beautiful world.Let this one settle in. Also: find and listen to “Believe” and “How We Speak To Each Other”.

A favourite and photogenic subject this week #SundayPix #SundayPixSolitude I love writing Alt text, do you?
This white-on-blue cloudscape of the Lea Valley is reflected in the surface of a wide lake stretching across to a dark tree- and shrub-lined bank, which divides the frame a little below halfway. But various textures of rippling disrupt the reflected image.A honey-gold sunrise through the distant treeline sets thin cloud cover aglow above a green field. We view this through thin, silhouetted seed-heads and twigs of foreground shrubs and wildflowers. At the base of the frame is a rustic wood fence, rising slightly from right to left.A vertical view of a seemingly impossible variety of white clouds in a blue sky, lit from just out of frame to the right by the early evening sun.In monochrome, a path slanting slightly from right down to left divides a minimalist frame of two-thirds grass to the bottom foreground, from bright, barely rippled water to the top. A dead straight path parallels the divide. A quarter of the way in from the left of the frame, standing out from the white of the water, is the jet black form of an orthodox Jewish gentleman on the lake bank, head slightly bowed, shoulders dropped, in profile facing our left, as if in contemplation. He is flanked by tiny floating ducks, one on each side, both facing right.

Sunday Pixies - it’s Saturday here and we’re still travelling with Antipodean WiFi so I’m posting an early theme. #SundayPix this week is #SundayPixSolitude So if you find you’re on a planet in a big universe, or an empty beach or the only lady on a teapot, show us what solitude means to you.

Oh, and also the closest I’ve been to a kingfisher. They are FAST. #SundayPix #SundayPixFuzzy
Taken looking down towards the water’s surface a vivid but speed-blurred blue, green, orange and white kingfisher is exiting the frame to the bottom left. In spite of the blur, its flight feathers on our side are spread and distinguishable. The wings are forward and down.Looking down at the kingfisher from above it and to its right, the vivid blue, white and orange bird is central, taking up most of the frame. It almost glows. Its wings are at the bottom of their downstroke. Its log, sharp, glinting beak appears white, contrasting withe rest of the bird, which is speed-blurred.

My niece’s cat, Olive, as a fuzzy kitten, and a goose family #SundayPix #SundayPixFuzzy
Close-up of a chocolate coloured kitten’s face. She has subtle stripes of lighter and darker fur above her wide, round eyes. She is looking just to the viewer’s right, calm but alert, her chin on a white fabric surface.A cute little near-black kitten faces us. She is wearing a red collar and is wedged, but not uncomfortably, between a white sofa cushion and a white wall. Behind her is a large green house plant.A chaos of yellow-grey fuzzy goslings graze on short, wild grass while their parents, greylag geese with orange bills, oversee their goings-on and scan the area for threats. They are all very comfortable indeed in the photographer’s presence - not to mention ‘personal space.’ Green summer trees and a pale sky provide the background.

Hi #SundayPix pixies. This weeks theme is #SundayPixMagic So all things you find magical. Here is a tribute to Florence, Zebedee, Dougal, Brian, Dylan and Ermintrude - Swindon's very own magic roundabout. See what you can conjure up for when the clock strikes midnight and let the magic begin.
It's a kind of magic.

Swindon's "magic roundabout" road junction - 5 mini-roundabouts rotating clockwise connected by a pentagon of roads. To navigate it you need a degree in transcendental geometry and fourth-dimensional topologies.

Dim baiting: accounts that act stupid to lure your correction. Examples. ‘My pic shows this was offside’ with a pic showing it wasn’t. ‘Why’s there a New Zealand when there’s no old Zealand?’ Asking atheists about basic arithmetic or science. We fall for it when we stereotype people, sadly.

This a photo Troop took of a favourite special place, beneath the trees, where we looking up at leaves as they kindly snatch up sun to make the cool. The leaves make pattern light and dark from all their different shapes. And as we stand, they gentle billow with the breeze, (though the picture do not mention that) and the branches they are black with shade that show the leaves more bright 🌿

Without neurodivergent people, particularly those with the traits of autism, the space race would have been lost and the tech revolution would have been delayed by decades, if it happened at all. Neurotypical people generally don’t have the level of focus without immediate reward those things took.

Well, that was a fucking ride.
A cropped screenshot of an article section titled "Gary Larson cartoon incident" from a Tumblr page. The text describes a controversy involving a Far Side cartoon and Jane Goodall.

_____________

Gary Larson cartoon incident

_____________

In 1987 Gary Larson published a Far Side cartoon of two chimpanzees grooming, in which one discovers a blonde hair and says, "Conducting a little more 'research' with that Jane Goodall tramp?"[127] The Jane Goodall Institute called the cartoon an "atrocity" in a letter drafted by its lawyers to Larson and his syndicate. Goodall, who was in Africa at the time, later found the cartoon amusing.[128]

She went on to name it her favourite depiction of herself in pop culture.[129] Larson offered profits from sales of a shirt featuring the cartoon to the Jane Goodall Institute.[130]

Goodall wrote the preface to The Far Side Gallery 5, detailing her version of the controversy.[131] She praised Larson's creative ideas, which often compare and contrast the behaviour of humans and animals.

In 1988 Larson visited Goodall's research facility in Tanzania.[128] While there, he was attacked by a chimpanzee named Frodo.[127][132]
