Agree with this, and to clarify: it goes both ways. If your opponent can’t or won’t do the same for you, then you get to dismiss them as unserious and dismiss their positions as unworthy of consideration. It’s not a bottomless pit of humoring bad people.

💚💚💚💚💚💚 we've replaced about 1/2 of our lawn with native plant beds and not only does mowing take half the time, but we don't have standing water in our backyard anymore because the sedges, viburnums, and bluestem grasses soak up so much more rain than turf grass. it's awesome.

Similar to driving through Scottsdale or Mesa and seeing street after street of grass-intensive Midwestern-type yards being watered during daylight hours. There's a delta between actually living somewhere and merely being there for a long time. It's a dialogue between self and place.

I discovered the same passion and it did almost make me a musicologist, and I approached my u/g musicology prof for advice. He asked me if I would rather be an really intellectually rigorous performer or a scholar who played surprisingly well. FBOW, I chose the former.
