I think it's finally time to start assembling the burrito book. There's enough material here and I'm not writing a ton of new stuff, which is usually a sign.

New poem up on the Some Words Lit board in which I argue that deer hunting is ontologically sapphic: somewords.boards.net/thread/209/b...
An excerpt from the poem "Bullet, to the Deer" as published in the message board/lit journal Some Words Lit. It reads:

"Bullet, to the Deer

Your teeth found a clutch of clover
Your tongue a giving river
Your black nose an interesting smell under the bark
of something that fell before both of us
got here.

You closed your eyes in perfect stillness,
your body rigid with peace.
When you found a clutch of clover,
I found you."

Sometimes you write Phantom Menace fanfic for a live show and your friend reads it and screams at you.
A series of text, one is a voice memo, the other is a reaction that reads "Hey. Hey. What the fuck? How dare this be so good? How dare this be so fucking beautiful? What am I supposed to DO WITH THIS." Followed by a message that reads "Ben Quadrinaros!"

cover: a watercolour painting of two snow capped mountains nestled in a landscape of blue sky and lush fields.

Breasts are a landscape ripe with tension. Breasts are celebrated, shamed, hated, and fetishized across the gender spectrum. Considered unsightly on men, fawned over on women, and, at best, tolerated on those drifting between. Having grown up as a fat “boy,” and transitioning into a woman, breasts were heavy and omnipresent all my life. This book is my attempt at charting my journey, from shame to glory and back again.

kithbooks.com“This is a book about breasts. Specifically, my breasts. I've had them for as long as I can remember, much longer than HRT has pinned them proudly to my chest, pink as boutonnières. These breasts have changed with me, time-lapsing with the messy beauty of a forest floor. They've changed with my body, my beliefs. Our relationship has been a matter of perspective - an ongoing process, constantly occurring, the perpetual rot and decay and rebirth of a person, of nature. It’s random, but purposeful. This transformation has a form all its own.

Billie's writing is funny, vulnerable, and breathtaking in its vastness. Did you know your body could be so much? Did you know your trans body is art? 36 Views of My Breasts is a true longitudinal study, in that each poem is its own remembrance of the flesh of chests past and reverence of tits present. Using repetition as an act of meaningful accumulation, Sainwood builds resonance through rituals of self-demolition and reconstruction, sweetened by remembering every awkward, dissonant, sexy, nurturing, discoverable iteration of self. Deftly and tenderly, Sainwood reminds us that we’re always naked under our clothes—then guides us to embrace the parts of ourselves that can only face forward alongside us.
- Stephanie Anderson, SOMEONE ELSE’S FEELINGS

Through a raw and luminous lens, Billie Sainwood pieces together the trans experience through a series of sharp, intimate stories that never shy away from the mess of becoming. With language that’s both visceral and tender, Sainwood writes through the body; its aches, transformations, and small triumphs, to reveal how identity is felt as much as it’s understood.

cover:
a water colour painting of two snowcapped mountains nestled in the suggestions of pastoral surroundings under a clear blue skyWhile posing with a can of Coke Zero for a joke

I can’t even remember the joke.
Something about Warhol
Or advertising
Or my willingness to be naked
At the drop of a hat
But all I remember is that the joke wasn’t very funny
But was well received

And
for once my body is not the punchline,
for once a pose is meant to accentuate,
for once a posture is not self defense,
for once the coke can is the coldest thing in my chest,
for once I can feel my heart beating,
against the aluminum,
for once I take a picture of myself naked
and do not shrink away.

For once I do not blame lighting,
Or out of focus
Or any of the thousand arrows
Loosed in a volley of barbed excuses
to shred the tension
and explain why I do not send it.

For once, I take a picture.
Send it.Billie Sainwood writes the kind of work that burrows under your skin and finds a home among all your other most cherished, precious thoughts, you know? 36 Views is a book I have not been able to stop thinking about. It’s summer at camp
at the swim dock.
All the boys have their shirts off
they’re all laughing, teasing
swapping the social slang of insults for friendship
of bullying for bouquets of flowers/
The quiet boy laughs
doesn’t think of his body much
except when he does.
When he laughs his breasts jiggle.
When the funniest kid in camp points this out
brays his joke about milk and udders
the dock bursts into a rich symphony of harsh donkey laughs
of goose honks
of heaving shoulders.

The boy’s breasts grow still.
They hide in the new canopy of his hunched shoulders.
He goes and gets a tee shirt
two sizes too big.

This is a cave that cannot hide them.
Cannot save them from more jokes.
Cannot save them from the boys who say they are “tits”
But still they hide in the baggy shirt.
Still, they decide, it will be years
before they come out again.

“i want to feel you
with alien skin
just to touch
the newness
and strangeness
of your flesh
until i again know it
for its sensitivity
under this layer
of warmth.”
- Latex
like blood on a dog's teeth

i love like a dog with blood on their teeth
caught up in the immediacy of the scent,
singularly focused and ever pursuing
eyes dilated, wracked with frenzy,
possession, instinct,
insatiable.

i am a dog in pursuit
baying and howling,
consumed by my quarry,
the trumpet beckoning me on
to settle the hunt
and feast

i am a starving dog following
the trace of you. finally
locked in my jaws
i gorge and gratify.

Drone
     (love in a gas mask)

there is perfection
in unblemished latex skin
a mask that reflects the viewer
in eyes that are closed
knowing only your warm touch
magnified and heightened
to guide me.

There is transfiguration in a creature
relying on exclusively on your command
to guide and position me.

To be an empty shell where words like 'I' escape meaning.
To respond to the pulls at my collar.
To be an object at your disposal.
To be the thing you use and direct.
To have no will but yours.

An emptiness and silence punctuated by breaths
through a gas mask
and what moans you command me make.

Breathe life into my vents and filters
and play god a while.
gentle

i wish to live
a quiet life
stirred only by a gentle breeze
that tickles wind-chimes in dulcet expressions
and calls me to prayer

yet here
the gentility we build
is surrounded by smoke
and fangs
and the roars of the bloodthirsty

the peace i have
this gentility i wish:
the bloodthirsty remind you
you only have this world
because the wolves haven't come for you yet.
they tolerate you for a while.

in this shrinking, gentle world
that hasn't yet turned to ash
the desolate feeling
(ever closer to the brink)
that we must be quieter

unhurried
reasoning with those
with bloodstained fangs
in the hope they pass over our houses—
(perhaps our bones and sinew are not yet
offensive enough
to warrant them gouging us.)

i say to you
these wolves will feast on us all—
we must defend
the last of this fragile world
from these forests of ash
and glinting teeth.
we must defend our gentle peace
our quiet and felicitous solitude
by sharpening our teeth
to meet the monsters' own.

when the howls of the bloodthirsty
are extinguished
we can have our quiet peace again.

No one teaches us how to age gracefully in the queer community; Nivik does the best job of it I've seen thus far. Their poems are elegaic exposés on an utterly new queer condition: what it's like to have loved and lost, to have danced until you're no longer the pretty young thing in the middle of the rave, to have had raw, unbridled intimacy in an age where the only epidemic people are worried about doesn't have to do with your sexuality. The animal imagery throughout, often classical, often beat, tells the tale of a dog who is lost and abandoned, found again, found again, and still possessing an immense, inane appetite. And whether you're a pup or a furry, a kinkster or a prude, a dom daddy or a sadistic sub, Nivik's poems are a dog unto themselves: they'll go for your throat, and you won't know until you're done whether their bite is one of love or of hunger. Or maybe they're both the same

Flattering, honest.
There is no hiding
No cover for the stomach.
Soft geometry.
This is my body.
Its unruly pop and bulge.
It dares you to love.
Gift from my ex wife.
Once hers, now mine. Legacy.
Woman to woman.
Your strong cotton hands.
Grip me and squeeze. Pull me tight.
Lift me. Support me.
Stomach horizon.
Cliffs of breasts above ocean.
My new tectonics.
You show me new worlds.
You gently teach me new tongues.

I have rediscovered how cute I look in pigtails. The world may never recover

This photo is the crowning achievement of my life.
Billie, in black boots and a white and midi black dress, stands behind a desk and a laptop. Behind her is a projection of a power point presentation. The slide is solid black with a single white word: tits.

I have written the Acknowledgments section to my latest project and realized, again, that it is a poem in disguise.

Hi! Please pre-order my book I worked so incredibly, unbelievably hard on it. It’s gay, it’s trans, it’s sexy, it’s violent, it has FEET in it!!!
The cover of What was eaten was given by Wilhelmina "Billie" Sainwood on a pale peach background overlayed with a red rectangle that reads "All those women, so far up there they could’ve been angels. It is because of their height, I knew I could climb." sits beside black text reading, "release date July 14 pre-orders are open"

on the cover a glistening, uncut liver rests on a white line drawn plate flanked by cutlery on a black background. the title and author's name are rendered in white.

I have a book coming out next month. If you like body horror, love poems, religious trauma, and feet? You’ll have a new favorite book by July. WHAT WAS EATEN WAS GIVEN out July 14th
[Desc: a promotional flyer for my poetry collection that reads PRE ORDER OPEN JUNE 17th 2024. The background is spruce green, the text is coral pink. To the right is the book’s cover, a glossy black background with the words “What was eaten was given” over a piece of liver meat laid out on a sketched white table setting (plate, knife, fork) and the text “poems by Wilhelmina “Billie” Sainwood” at the bottom right]

Sometimes I think it’s weird that I’ve spent most of this month writing about my breasts…then I remember that I literally JUST got these and that’s rad.
