A reminder for people eyeing the Mega Millions: the expected value of a ticket only reaches the $5 ticket price when the jackpot is at $1.125 billion. At the current $900m, the expected value is $4.22. I know, I know, gotta be in it to win it. But it's important to know the score.

20 years ago, fellow WUSC DJs talked about the growing consolidation in broadcasting allowing one company to control large swaths of the radio dial across America. Lots of abstract concerns then but one practical one: radio sucks when it's too corporate. The other stuff is less abstract now.
