A child in an Idaho faith-healing family died of a treatable condition. Then another died — and another, and another. Idaho’s child abuse laws contain such broad religious exemptions that authorities didn’t intervene — before or after the deaths.

My point never shifted. My entire premise is simply: COVID came at a cost, we shouldn't ignore that. We need to help our children in their education journey which was stunted in many ways due to the pandemic. For some reason, when people mention this they get attacked. It's surreal.

My kids struggled because the online pedagogy was not effective, because our poor teachers were scrambling. They did the best they could, but it takes time to teach in an entirely different format. My ND child struggled with the lack of 1:1 conversations with her teachers. It's just her style.

These groups progressed less in the year we had lockdowns then they had in prior years. It was almost as if we had a lost half-year of learning. We should also prepare plans for future pandemics so these events are less impactful. We need to help these children and not continue to ignore them.

It's certainly complicated. I never claimed it was simple. My neurodivergent child struggled with MANY aspects. My non-ND did too. There's myriad factors that led to learning loss due to shut downs. Given, we recognize a shutdown could happen again in the future, it behooves us to plan for that.

I've read those and others. I frankly didn't feel like spending and hour sending you easy to find, published studies. I wasnt against shutdowns. Im against ignoring the impact. Having taught classes in person and online, I recognize teachers weren't assisted with the transition to online pedagogy.

I agree it prevented loss of life. I supported distance learning. However, the data is clear across the world where we kept kids at home their was a slowing of learning. It was a fair trade off. It's likely that schools were not prepared to go full remote. We owe it to those generations to help.

Actually, there's a huge trove of data that shows kids fell behind. Almost a lost year for some. (This extends beyond National borders) For those, who are well-off, tech savvy, and could teach our kids when online fell short, kids did fine. Protecting families/lives came at a cost.

Because the KY legislature would likely impeach and remove Beshears. That would not be worth the risk.

It would be worse than a sternly worded letter... it would be vacuous grandstanding. He could sense a State Patrol officer to the home? Maybe a letter to the legislature demanding a special election. Honestly, there's nothing he can do, so it's best to draw attention to the mess

The Twin Cities grassroots response to the police murders of Jamar Clark, Philando Castile, George Floyd, Dolal Idd, Daunte Wright, and Amir Locke were a huge part of the reason we were prepared to fight back against the ICE occupation this winter. We've spent over a decade building solidarity.

Here's Thomas Jefferson--yes, that Thomas Jefferson--going on at length in "Notes on the State of Virginia" about how slavery is a moral abomination and he hopes enslavers figure that out before they're all killed and deservedly burn in Hell avalon.law.yale.edu/18th_century...
Screenshotted excerpt of Query XVIII that exceeds the alt text limit so here are some select quotes:

...There must doubtless be an unhappy influence on the manners of our people produced by the existence of slavery among us. The whole commerce between master and slave is a perpetual exercise of the most boisterous passions, the most unremitting despotism on the one part, and degrading submissions on the other. Our children see this, and learn to imitate it; for man is an imitative animal...The parent storms, the child looks on, catches the lineaments of wrath, puts on the same airs in the circle of smaller slaves, gives a loose to his worst of passions, and thus nursed, educated, and daily exercised in tyranny, cannot but be stamped by it with odious peculiarities...And with what execration should the statesman be loaded, who permitting one half the citizens thus to trample on the rights of the other, transforms those into despots, and these into enemies, destroys the morals of the one part, and the amor patriae of the other...can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with his wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that his justice cannot sleep for ever...But it is impossible to be temperate and to pursue this subject through the various considerations of policy, of morals, of history natural and civil. We must be contented to hope they will force their way into every one's mind. I think a change already perceptible, since the origin of the present revolution. The spirit of the master is abating, that of the slave rising from the dust, his condition mollifying, the way I hope preparing, under the auspices of heaven, for a total emancipation, and that this is disposed, in the order of events, to be with the consent of the masters, rather than by their extirpation.

Saying this now, just in case - - New Yorkers hated Giuliani on 9/10, couldn't wait to get rid of him - Giuliani was in the street on 9/11 bc the Command Center at 7WTC was destroyed (he put it there to be near Judi Nathan) - Giuliani killed 343 firemen by forcing cheap radios on them
