www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle... '[A] queue jumper posted a video, captioned: “Won’t catch me hiking for two hours to spend 30 minutes queueing at the top.”' Hilarious. Just 2 hours hike? It's hardly worth caring about touching the top, let alone jumping the queue.

The crowds at the top of Yr Wyddfa, the highest mountain in Wales, are now so huge that seasoned hikers and climbers are simply walking past them. Is everyone just making a mountain out of a molehill?

Spent the evening in largely car-free Utrecht and sad to see the devastating impact the exclusion of cars has had on the bars, cafes and restaurants, and the liveliness of the city centre.
An awful lot of people sitting in outside terraces in central Utrecht Dozens and dozens of people in canalside cages and bars in Utrecht Still more people in cafes and bars in central Utrecht A side street full of bars and cafes, in turn full of people, in central Utrecht

The de-banking of the Canary is a warning. If they can silence us, they can silence anyone.
This attack on Canary is not isolated. It is part of a wider pattern of suppressing anti-establishment voices through financial pressure.

Why building safe routes to walk and cycle is really good value for money. [From my newsletter: diagramclub.substack.com ]
Black-and-white cartoon titled “Building safe routes to walk and cycle is really good value for money.”
- A children’s drawings of traveling to school suggest they want to walk, but “they can’t because it isn’t safe.”
- An “active travel money machine” illustration states that every £1 invested returns £5.50.
- Benefits include physical activity, thriving high streets, reduced loneliness and improved mental health, road safety, and less pollution. - A section showing different transport options, bus, bicycle, walking, helicopter, and ca, around a person, with label “people need a choice.”
- A pie labeled “roads budget” and a small slice labeled “active travel” illustrate the message that “a fair share goes a long way.”

When I was an engineer in a factory, we worked on the basis that systems should fail safe in the event of machinery failure or operator error. It's wild that suggesting applying the same principle to roads - space we all have to use, including kids - is considered extreme.
