“Vero got their stuff and glitched out with Solomon to the local library. The blueprints had been simple enough to find online, and he chose a storage room where they wouldn’t be seen popping in out of nowhere. This early, the place was empty, and the librarian didn’t even look up when they slipped out of the short hallway.
Focused on the books he scanned, the balding man bopped his head to whatever was playing on his earbuds. Trendy, multi-color-rimmed glasses perched low on his nose, a few silver stud earrings winking in the light along one big ear, his fitted plaid shirt pastel pink and blue instead of the darker colors most of the other men around here preferred. He seemed pretty chill.
Which was Perfect.
After warning the nightmare to let him do the talking, Vero approached the desk.
The librarian lifted his gaze and smiled at him, taking out the earbuds. “Good morning, young man. My name's Henry…and I don’t think I’ve seen you around here before. Are you visiting family?”
“Vero. And no, we’re actually here as part of a school thing. Or that’s the excuse I gave my parents for needing to come up here.” Vero lowered his voice, like he was sharing a secret, and the librarian leaned in, nodding with understanding. “I do have to get my project done while I’m here, though, or my dad will cut me off.”
“We wouldn’t want that.” The librarian glanced over the counter at Solomon, his brow furrowing slightly when the nightmare sat on the floor with one of the books from the cart. He took off his glasses, cleaning them with the hem of his shirt. “We have a nice comfy reading nook, why don’t I show you where that is while you tell me how I can help?”
“That’d be great.” Vero reached down, hooking his hand to Solomon’s arm to tug him to his feet. “We—”
Two sets of blood red eyes blinked at him, matching those of the monster on the book cover.”

“The thin line of trees at the end of the field gave him something to aim for. On the prison bus he’d noticed there wasn’t much traffic out here, but the streets were kept pretty clean. If he made it there, he might lose the guards. Find somewhere to lay low until he’d rested enough to use magic without passing out.
Big ‘if’.
All right, no need to be pessimistic. Sprinting through the snow, Axton managed to put more space between himself and the guards. He dropped to his knees as he crossed the treeline and his sneakers hit asphalt. Pressing his hands to the icy road, he let out a sigh of relief as the deep, burning throb receded.
Then kept moving.
Packed snow made parts of the street slippery, but sticking to the shoulder helped. If only he knew where the fuck he was going. He’d landed himself in the middle of nowhere.”

“Rip leaned against the car, willing his pulse to slow and his legs to start working again. “Sure. I can stay.”
“Good.” Otto kissed Rip softly, not looking any more ready to move than he was. “Coffee?”
“Coffee.” Rip pressed his eyes shut as Otto moved away. How messed up was it that he was less concerned with being seen than with how physically painful it was to have to stop. He’d never been in this position before. His body had never been quite so demanding.
He looked up at Otto’s soft curse.
Otto shot him a sheepish smile. “Sorry, I’m just wondering why fate is fucking with us.”
“Fate?” Rip laughed, not sure if Otto was about to use a line on him. “Not sure what fate has to do with this.”
“Probably nothing, but guys like you are usually out of my league.” Otto shrugged as if he hadn’t made the most ridiculous statement of the century. “Maybe some higher power wants me to behave myself. Be easier if you weren’t so fucking tempting.”

#Sniptober what do you do when food becomes the enemy? Lunaris is struggling deeply today in this little snip.

Lunaris dropped their bag by the door and exhaled long and slow. Their body felt like a half broken machine, patched but never restored. Palm pressed against the wall, grounding.

Just for a second.

They wandered to the fridge. Cold air spilled out, catching sweat at the back of their neck. A few leftovers. Some wilting produce.

Lunaris stared for a long time. Everything looked wrong. The textures were already too loud in their mind, slimy, grainy, mushy, wet. The smell of yesterday’s takeout turned their stomach. The thought of chewing felt unbearable today.

They sighed and closed the fridge, because trying to eat when their body was this tense, this overwhelmed, felt like punishment.

They sat down instead, lightheaded and guilty, trying to convince themself maybe later they’d find something manageable. Something soft. Something safe. Something bland enough not to set off alarms in their brain.

Just finished watching Below on Netflix, and I absolutely loved it. Were there things they could've tightened up a bit? Sure. But on a whole it kept my interest, the location and the visuals were beautiful, and I liked pretty much all of the characters. Highly recommend watching it.

“Connor dressed quickly, wishing he had time for a run before he had to face both bands. He still wasn’t sure how the men he’d known for years would react to learning about his…issues. Now he had to pretend to be normal in front of virtual strangers. His hands shook as he pulled on his shirt. He tangled his hand in the long sleeve, cursing when he shoved and the fabric ripped under the arm.
“Slow down, Connor.” Balthazar came over, stopping him from yanking the shirt off, unbuttoning the buttons he’d left done up when he’d tried to pull it on. “This is one of your concert shirts.”
“Which I just fucking ruined.” Connor threw the shirt on the bed and glared at it. “I brought five nice shirts. Now I have four. Fucking awesome.”
“We’ll buy you another one tomorrow when we’re in Rome.” Balthazar’s soothing tone made breathing a little easier. He didn’t make Connor feel stupid for freaking out over a shirt. “This is a casual meeting between the bands to discuss the collaboration. Why not wear something comfortable?”
“All my T-shirts are worn out and have holes in them.” “All my T-shirts are worn out and have holes in them.” But he had three-hundred dollar jeans. He groaned, raking his fingers though his hair. “I don’t want to look like a slob.”
“Would you like to borrow one of my shirts?”
“What if I ruin it?”
“I doubt you will, sitting there having a conversation, but I’m not that attached to my clothes.” Balthazar hooked his arm around Connor’s neck and kissed his forehead. “Stay here. I’ll get a shirt from the bus. Do you want me to grab you some coffee while I’m upstairs?”
“Please.”

Croissant? Danica snorted. “That’s Madame Courchesne. Not sure how you got ‘Croissant’ out of that.”
His lips tipped into a sheepish smile. “I may have stopped listening to her when she started being a bitch to you. I heard Tate call her that a few times, so I thought that was her name. Might be that he’s not a fan of our choreographer either.”
“Probably not. Did you hear her lecture him about how he should be sitting straighter behind the drums? If it wouldn’t have screwed with the sound, he’d probably have laid his head right on the snare.”
Alder laughed. “There’s still time. I wouldn’t put it past him to mess with her today.”
“After we almost got all the moves perfect yesterday? No way.” Danica hopped to her feet, popping one last blackberry in her mouth before heading to the bedroom to get dressed. “I bet he’ll be on his best behavior.”
Joining her in the bedroom, Alder tugged on a fresh shirt, then gave her a challenging smile. “What are you willing to wager?”
She touched her tongue to her bottom lip and smirked at him. “I think I might enjoy having you as a slave for the day.”
“I think you get whatever you want from me either way, so winning won’t mean much.” His words were sweet, but there was a cockiness to his tone that had her arching a brow at him

Rereading Upper Class (Higher learning Book 4) and this part made me smile. Tanya and Ward are the most wholesome exes I've ever written and I love their friendship. 💕 After having so many say 'Eww, no girls in MM Romance!' I not so subconsciously included several in every book. Sorry not sorry.

“Standing, he gestured to her iced bubble tea. “Would you like another?”
She arched a brow. “I thought you were going to storm off.”
“Nope. I’m having fun, even while you’re riding my ass.”
“Mmm.” Her lips quirked. “You always did enjoy that.”
Neck heating, he shot her the disapproving frown that always served him in the military, but had only ever made her laugh. A sound he enjoyed enough not to take it as a blow to his ego. He wasn’t in command of anyone except a bunch of loveable mutts now.

After ordering them each another drink, he returned to the table and faced her. “You asked me to keep an eye out for any dogs that needed to be fostered before they could start training. I found one if you and your girlfriend are still interested.”

“Apparently not. I’m glad it came out now though. I have no patience for anyone shaming me for doing what’s right for myself and my body.” She smiled. “I’m glad you were there though. If you’d asked me to marry you that night, I might’ve said yes.”
He smiled back, then shook his head. “You wouldn’t have. I shipped out a few days later, but I’m happy I was there too. And that I got better at checking the expiry date on condoms.”
“Oh God, yes. But hey, we got to binge watch Doctor Who that weekend. Wasn’t a total loss.”

Just another reason to go indie. These publishers might not care about their reputations, or reader's trust, but indie authors can at least avoid someone who's taking a large chunk of their money from destroying their credibility. I feel horrible for the authors trapped in this mess.

“Hey buddy, did you get lost?” He noticed the collar on the dog’s neck and his brow shot up. Louis Vuitton? Damn. Who spent that kind of money on a dog collar for a puppy who’d grow out of it within months?
Probably someone who’d be missing him now.
And has their servants out looking.
His lips thinned as he shoved away the bitter thoughts. He didn’t have the best impression of rich people lately, but that didn’t matter. The puppy had a license with his name and address. No need to have anyone wondering around in the rain. Rich or not, his owner would be relieved to have him home safe.
“Doesn’t look like you got too far on your little adventure, Boots.” Ward smoothed the puppy’s damp black and white fur away from his eyes as Boots gave him a sleepy look. He needed to be dried up, but he was trembling less and looked about ready for a nap. “Not a lot of houses around here. Let’s see which one’s yours.”
