Here's a variation ongthat circuit using parts you probably already have. Pressing the on button turns the power on. Press and release the OFF button turns the power off. A microprocessor can use a GPIO pin to shut off its own power.

I got to play with one of these in high school. 😀 the first computer I ever owned was an Apple II clone that I had to build myself. Now I have a collection of computers, most of which are on the wrong side of 40 years old.

IBM Model 1130 computer. On the left side is the card reader and punch machine. The computer itself is built into the central desk, and the the printer is on the right.

Spotted while out for my lunchtime walk...

A concrete cylinder half submerged in the water of a small river. There is a turtle sunbathing on top of it. In the background is a muddy bank with grass hanging down from above.

Bruno was adopted as a shelter kitten five years ago. As you can tell, he is very comfortable around the house.

My two are entirely AI free. Of course, there are times when they seem to be free of all intelligence, artificial or otherwise.

This is Cardi and Bruno. Bruno loves to be hugged and petted. If I try to hug Cardi, she will give me some very pointed reminders that she does not like to be held. She's more than happy to accept petting and combing instead.

I find it amazing how tolerant of humans the wildlife can be. Walking in the Humber Arboretum a few years ago I came across this guy having lunch in the middle of the trail. He tolerated me walking right past him before I stopped to take this picture...

Brampton, Ontario, Canada. just in time for Christmas 2013.

Ice covered road with utility poles broken off about halfway up. There are power lines on the road in the foreground, and off in the distance there are cars stopped behind the road closure barriers.

The forecast I've seen says that some areas may see as much as an inch of freezing rain. In 2013, Toronto, Canada got hit by a storm like that. This was the result...

Winter view of an ice covered road. Downed power lines are in the foreground. emergency vehicles visible in the distance down the road. Along the left side of the road, trees are bending under the ice, and at least a half dozen utility poles are snapped off. More downed wires and parts of the utility poles litter the ground between the pole stumps.
