I think about what Roger wrote about Dolly Parton in his 9 TO 5 review any time I think of her: www.rogerebert.com/reviews/nine...
“Nine to Five” is a good-hearted, simple-minded comedy that will win a place in film history, I suspect, primarily because it contains the movie debut of Dolly Parton. She is, on the basis of this one film, a natural-born movie star, a performer who holds our attention so easily that it’s hard to believe it’s her first film.

There have been other debuts this unmistakable; you could name Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, John Travolta. And what you’d be talking about in each case would not necessarily be a great dramatic performance in an important movie. You’d be talking about a quality of presence, a personal life force that seems to take over the screen.

“Nine to Five” is only a fairly successful comedy. It has some very funny moments, and then it has some major ingredients that don’t work, including some of its fantasy sequences. But then it also has Dolly Parton. And she contains so much energy, so much life and unstudied natural exuberance that watching her do anything in this movie is a pleasure. Because there have been so many Dolly Parton jokes (and doubtless will be so many more), I had better say that I’m not referring to her sex appeal or chest measurements. Indeed, she hardly seems to exist as a sexual being in this movie. She exists on another plane, as Monroe did: She is a center of life on the screen.

Dear Dottie,
...as a reminder that it was you, Dottie Dekko, who stood firm and had the confidence to be persistent that we bring big-league professional soccer to Minnesota. Had you personally been any less insistent that we create this new organization, in all probability there would be no KICKS.
Best wishes,

HOW PROFESSIONAL SPORTS BECAME AN IMPORTANT PART OF MY LIFE
Eight p.m., August 25, 1976: It was, as they say, an evening to remember. As it ended, the crowd stormed the playing field and triumphantly carried away soccer players whose names they'd heard for the first time only four months earlier. That night, the Minnesota Kicks captured the hearts of Minnesota sports fans.
Joe Soucheray of the Minneapolis Tribune wrote, "..the crowd erupted in a crazy quilt of emotion after the game. The goals came down. The sprinklers on the field were turned on.
People frolicked in the water. More people came on the field. The crowd swept over the television lights....Finally the lights were turned off, but the people still would not leave the field."
It all started in October 1975. Several friends were enjoying a Vikings' game, when someone mentioned that the Denver soccer franchise was available. Everyone was interested, so the next Monday morning I went to the library to research soccer. Jack Crocker, chairman of Super Valu Stores, Inc., read my paper and convinced eight other people to buy the Denver franchise with us. Life has never been the same
Most of the media people predicted we would fail, but we sold 4,000 season tickets that first year before we even had a coach, a stadium or a schedule.
Freddie Goodwin, the Kicks' coach, gathered the team from England, South Africa and the United States. For the first game on May 9, 1976, 17,612 spectators jammed the stadium. Owners and friends sold tickets in the parking lot because we had underestimated the crowd, but 15 minutes after starting time, 3,000 people were still outside. It was decided they should not miss the game because of our miscalculation, so the gates were lifted. Of all the people who had already paid for admission, only one asked for a refund. The rest applauded. We made a lot of friends that day.
The rest of the season was spent trying to keep up with the success of the Minnesota Kick…

White sheet of paper with a messy slanted oval scribbled in the middle, using different color pens in many layers. It looks like a galaxy or a nebula. Or maybe a bagel. It's labeled with the word "VOID" and an arrow instructs "scream here."

The shooting happened on the level above the ballroom where the White House Correspondents Association dinner was.
I don't think people hearing about this -- or even those of us in the room -- realized how far from the president, VP and other guests this incident was. It was on another floor, up some stairs and several sets of security away.
Because the Washington Hilton's hotel and other public spaces were open for other functions, the entire building wasn't secured by the Secret Service, just the specific areas where the WHCA dinner was held, law enforcement officials told @CBSNews
