R.I.P. Peter Max.

An example of Peter Max's art ("Universal Harmony") featuring - in typical vibrant colors - a pond in the foreground, two trees with brilliantly multi-colored leaves nearby. Above, one of Max's huge stylized suns, setting behind the mountains, with stars/planets in the night sky appearing between the sun's rays. Centered is a flying angel against the orange sun, carrying someone on its back. (Image credit to Newport Brushstrokes Fine Art Inc(

TIL that Lincoln Logs were created by John Lloyd Wright (the son of Frank Lloyd Wright) who'd learned about interlocking log beams when he was sent to earthquake-prone Tokyo by his father to work on a building project. And then he was fired by his dad and made a toy based on his new knowledge.
The image shows the starter set for the Lincoln Logs toy, showing some fences and houses built from the brown "logs." The log cabins are topped by green roofs and red chimneys

So...the DogRates account (bsky.app/profile/wera...) has a list where every day you get an email that says "Hello YourName" with fun dog pics and maybe a story or two. Today's my birthday, and my b'day greetings so far have just been from dentists & eye doctors...until the DogRates email showed up!
From a ratemydogs.com email list: a photo of a dog named Ozzie, who's tucked into bed covers. His human got a birthday cake with an perfectly cute and scruffy edible fondant Ozzie on top, and the cake is on the bed, about a foot from the doggo. I'm assuming this was sent out today specifically for my birthday. :)

Fuzzy photo, but does anybody recognize this lapel pin...and can you tell me why have it? 🤣
Thumb and index finger holding back clasp of a rectangular silver-ish lapel pin with a vaguely abstract globe at the top and text beneath saying 50 years (but with "ans" below "years," suggesting the organization is at least partly francophone.)

Behold. The festering carcass of American rot shoved into an ill-fitting suit: the sleaze of a conman, the cowardice of a draft dodger, the gluttony of a parasite, the racism of a Klansman, the sexism of a back-alley creep, the ignorance of a bar-stool drunk, and the greed of a hedge-fund ghoul—all spray-painted orange and paraded like a prize hog at a county fair. Not a president. Not even a man. Just the diseased distillation of everything this country swears it isn't but has always been—arrogance dressed up as exceptionalism, stupidity passed off as common sense, cruelty sold as toughness, greed exalted as ambition, and corruption worshiped like gospel. It is America's shadow made flesh, a rotting pumpkin idol proving that when a nation kneels before money, power, and spite, it doesn't just lose its soul—it shits out this bloated obscenity and calls it a leader.

Repost this with the very first album you bought with your own money.
Image of a [much-used] cover of Carole King's 1971 record album Tapestry. King is sitting in a room with high windows in front of a window on a sunny day. Her below-shoulder-length hair is catching the sun, she's barefoot and wearing a casual sweater and bell-bottom blue jeans. Her left knee is bent (foot resting on the window bench) and there's a tapestry of some sort in her lap. A cat sits on a pillow a few feet in front of her, facing the camera. The words Carole King Tapestry are printed on the upper left corner of the image. (note: the titles and lyrics of all the songs were printed on the back of the album. I had learned all the lyrics by the end of the first day I owned the album and played the album probably 25 times that first weekend

Screenshot: Excerpt from "A Sound of Thunder" by Ray Bradbury (1952)

"Unbelievable." Eckels breathed, the light of the Machine on his thin face. "A real Time Machine." He shook his head. "Makes you think. If the election had gone badly yesterday, I might be here now, running away from the results. Thank God Keith won. He'll make a fine President of the United States."

"Yes," said the man behind the desk. "We're lucky. If Deutscher had gotten in, we'd have the worst kind of dictatorship. There's an anti everything man for you, a militarist, anti-Christ, anti-human, anti-intellectual. People called us up, you know, joking but not joking. Said if Deutscher became President they wanted to go live in 1492..."

Here are my Google search results when I wanted to find out when Jimmy Carter would be able to vote. I typed in "When can J" and "When can Jimmy Carter vote" was already the first result in predictive text.
