I wish this scumbag would stop using my tax money to spread lies about the people who actually care about this country, i.e., people who don't want to just feed at the trough of hard-working Americans like the Republicans have been doing for decades.

I mean, I feel a little guilty about being so pleased Kyle Schwarber just grounded out in his final regular season game, but it means PCA remains tied for first place with Schwarber in home runs this season. (45 each)

No idea why the Yankees & Orioles thought they were going to get a final reg season game in today. The NYC rain forecast is 90+% through sunrise tomorrow. In the end, the cancellation doesn't matter since the Orioles are out of the playoffs & the Yankees have the #1 wild card slot, but still... 🙁

R.I.P. Peter Max.

An example of Peter Max's art ("Universal Harmony") featuring - in typical vibrant colors - a pond in the foreground, two trees with brilliantly multi-colored leaves nearby. Above, one of Max's huge stylized suns, setting behind the mountains, with stars/planets in the night sky appearing between the sun's rays. Centered is a flying angel against the orange sun, carrying someone on its back. (Image credit to Newport Brushstrokes Fine Art Inc(

A 40-year-old unvaccinated woman in Pennsylvania has just died from measles. There is no controversy. She needlessly died from a disease that is preventable with a vaccine. But HHS Secretary RFK Jr. thinks measles isn’t that bad. Nobody should die of measles in the United States.

The Astros are not helping push the Rays out of the number one spot in the American League East. It's the 5th inning, and the Rays are already leading 11 - 0.

I listened to the 9/11 Howard Stern show more than once (they were on live that day), and Trump was on the phone with them - in his office in Trump Tower, as he said during the interview. Not down by the WTC, being pulled out of the rubble.

Here's what I've learned from reading wild stories about big wedding planning on reddit... When you make arrangements with vendors, include a password, because the odds of some relative or ex or "friend" trying to cancel the venue, change the dress order, etc is alarmingly high. People are weird.

I give my college students an easy 10-question syllabus quiz after a few days of the term I tell them that they can have the syllabus open in a 2nd tab (this is written on the quiz, too) & I teach them how to do document searches. One student received 0.5 points out of 10. How's that possible?

Okay, so the Yankees won last night, but then got shut out by the Red Sox this afternoon. However, my National League team - the Cubs - beat the Reds 17-5, so the household is happy. And my boy PCA? As the image shows, he went 4 for 6, with 3 (!) home-runs, 6 RBIs and 4 runs. #MVPete

TIL that Lincoln Logs were created by John Lloyd Wright (the son of Frank Lloyd Wright) who'd learned about interlocking log beams when he was sent to earthquake-prone Tokyo by his father to work on a building project. And then he was fired by his dad and made a toy based on his new knowledge.
The image shows the starter set for the Lincoln Logs toy, showing some fences and houses built from the brown "logs." The log cabins are topped by green roofs and red chimneys

I decided - spontaneously - to make aloo palak (spinach & potaties) but to add lentils. I also had no turmeric (subbed a curry powder with turmeric as the first ingredient) AND had no garam masala, so I [mostly] made my own. Okay, what I'm saying is I only kind of made aloo palak. :)

There are perennial conversations about whether it's common to take #shoes off when you come in the house, so let me ask you: * Where do you live? * Do you take your shoes off (and why or why not?) My answer: small Midwestern city (surrounded by farms) Nope, largely because of balance issues.

So...the DogRates account (bsky.app/profile/wera...) has a list where every day you get an email that says "Hello YourName" with fun dog pics and maybe a story or two. Today's my birthday, and my b'day greetings so far have just been from dentists & eye doctors...until the DogRates email showed up!
From a ratemydogs.com email list: a photo of a dog named Ozzie, who's tucked into bed covers. His human got a birthday cake with an perfectly cute and scruffy edible fondant Ozzie on top, and the cake is on the bed, about a foot from the doggo. I'm assuming this was sent out today specifically for my birthday. :)

Quick rec for Nolan's The Odyssey. There were a few relatively minor unnecessary changes, but generally it was very well done and pretty true to the original work (...you know, apart from it being in English. :D) And...I stayed awake for the whole almost-three-hours, which is rare for me. :)

Night of the Living Dead would've had an R rating, but MPA ratings went into effect just after its 1968 release. My first actual R rated film was The Godfather (I loved Brando). Less than a year later, I coerced my folks into letting my aunt take me to Brando's x-rated (!) Last Tango in Paris.
