x.com/jpariacano/s..., no idea if it is verified from Panama, some videos of collapsing buildings that go around are from the earthquake in Mexico City, some years ago.

A M7.7 earthquake just struck southern Panama - the largest on-land earthquake the country has experienced in recorded history. What do we know, why did it occur, and what can we expect?

Strong and shallow #earthquake with a magnitude of M7.7 in #Panama. Here's the seismic signal of my Raspishake seismometer 12 mins after origin time in Herne, Germany, which is 9200 km away from the epicenter. 🧪⚒️ #geology @raspishake.bsky.social

The magnitude 7.7 #earthquake in #Panama has a shallow depth hypocenter (12-14km) and a strike-slip / normal mechanism 👇. It seems to be a crustal event within the Panama #tectonic microplate. The epicenter is near the Sona-Azuero fault, which traverses the Azuero peninsula. ⚒️

Really nice simulation!! How the river changes by adjusting water flow and sediment load, the erosion and the regrowing vegetation, very illustrative.

That has been the debate. On the other hand, the layer has been dated quite precisely at Storegga age. I will try to find the descriptions of it. Will be a bit busy this week with fieldwork.

Beautiful landscape in southern Bolivia. Image centre at -19.52 -64.85. North is at right. ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot took this image from space station #ISS on 16 September 2026. Original eol.jsc.nasa.gov/SearchPhotos... @daveatcogs.bsky.social
The image shows an arid landscape consisting of weathered rock formations in all kinds of shapes. A few river valleys have dissected the terrain. Above centre a more-or-less heartshaped structure is visible.
