I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.

Without them sharing the notes with versioning on, we're not going to know. Based on my experience, they're probably going to have to collect and summarize all notes they each took, and that'll flatten the passion right out of them. I'm curious if the citation I gave was recorded or will be checked.

The CDD wasn't mentioned in the list of disasters during the introduction. I don't recall the murder of George Floyd being specifically mentioned alongside attrition, but rather challenges (my wording) that the district has dealt with. A commenter did mention the CDD in a similar list though.

* If anyone who presents like this with a google doc up on the screen, please take these steps: 1. Set the doc to something other than page layout. 2. Resize the text in the doc or zoom in on the screen more for the size of the screen. 3. Set it as a second monitor rather than mirror your screen.

The experience of being at the Mic, for me, was that the folks from the District were paying attention and taking notes when someone was speaking. TBD if they find a way to convey that successfully after the feedback sessions are all done. I didn't see any press, though there was a check in for it.

Ben Swope @benswope.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
It was stated several times that there were interpretation needs being met as a reason why the audience shouldn't call out questions and should go to the Mic. I didn't see it happening or any requests for repeats or clarification, but that could be down to my perspective.

The vibe in the room was angry, against this happening, and demanding answers and accountability. After the District presenters stopped replying to comments, it seemed to turn into a venting session for frustrated community members and staff with no feedback.

Ben Swope @benswope.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
There was an ongoing tally of high level topics taken and displayed on a projector. * I didn't catch all of them by the end, but the repeats were Attrition, Trust, information, Hale and Field changes, and timeline. They were very broad, but we were assured twice that detailed notes were taken.

There were very specific comments as well, such as asking why they updated the Kitchen in Field School, only to not use it, then propose to close it. Lots of questions about the disparity between what was communicated as reasons for change vs what was actually done that seemed contraindicated.

Ben Swope @benswope.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Several MPS Teachers and Staff commented as well, giving their perspective on how the changes as presented appear to leave out a lot of very relevant information, as well as inherently cut jobs. The District response was to dance around the issue then deflect to the MFT contract.

Ben Swope @benswope.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
The overall feedback was against all the plan options, and the short timeline, and asking for a LOT more info before making any decisions. The commenters were parents and students in the area that feeds into Washburn. Field School closure and Lyndale School changing in option 3 were big topics.

They did allow folks who were already seated to raise their hands if they didn't have a ticket and wanted to speak. After the audience reacted several times during a pause in comments for them to give feedback, they opted to switch to taking all comments instead of responding every 15.

I attended and spoke. They (The District members presenting) started with a brief PowerPoint on the plans and why(ish) they came up with them, and briefly tried to address the comments so far. They went into questions and comments using the ticket lottery system. It went late, out now, mini-thread.

i think Minneapolis Public Schools’ leadership choosing to extend the first in-person “school transformation” meeting by an extra hour and 20 mins is the perfect metaphor for why this plan needs to be delayed & must throughly engage with our school communities around these devastating closures.

That slide is helpful to know for those who are attending a future session (Tomorrow at Washburn for me). As is planning on staying later than the listed time when the avalanche of feedback ends up being bigger than expected.

I still have my eye out for websites that use tables to do formatting of pages. Screen readers (at least the ones I used to work with) read any table as tabular data and need very specific formatting and alt text per cell to be read with anything approaching legibility.

Just last night I remembered another reason why you all need to make sure you get out to vote this year. In 2024, Wisconsin beat us in voter turnout and that is *unacceptable*. We can't let that happen again. www.mprnews.org/story/2025/0...

The article mentions the hobby horse I’m on. Getting an autistic child into a school in which they are comfortable should be *top priority*. Autistic children miss far more school than non-autistic kids due to many factors. It’s unacceptable—but typical—that the district didn’t act on this.

Addendum: You must also classify all delivery drivers as direct employees of the major company they serve first, otherwise you're just eating into the wages of what are technically contractors and won't impact Amazon or any of the other abusers at all.
