We told an Irish American girl that when the Muppets was released in Ireland, Kermit the Frog was called Dermot the Frog because Cromwell’s son was a Kermit. 641665354

Belle Sprout @bellesproot.bsky.social · 25/09/2026I generally think of myself as pretty numb, but I was feeling real panic at points, outrage at others, despair and joy at others. It was so foreign for a book to do that for me that I initially thought something was physically wrong with me. I can't recommend it highly enough. 000
Belle Sprout @bellesproot.bsky.social · 25/09/2026After finishing uni 8 years ago, I've found it really hard to read for pleasure. This year I've been struggling with finding the joy in it again, but the narration and dialog are voiced in such a muted but moving way that I connected with it immediately. 100
Belle Sprout @bellesproot.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Picked up John Green's Hollywood, Ending when it released this week on audiobook. Finished it yesterday. Here's my review. Bear in mind, I'm just some rando casual occasional SFF reader so this was a bit of a departure for me (I loved it) 100
Belle Sprout @bellesproot.bsky.social · 23/09/2026I've actually used audiobooks specifically for the ability to physically do something else while listening to them (for years I told myself I was too busy to read, so it felt like a compromise), but the literal limitation that comes with reading text on page is pretty specific to the medium. 010
Belle Sprout @bellesproot.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Very fair! I do think that the way we write prose etc. incorporates that limitation in its composition. A book can't (or shouldn't) be made with the intent to be the reader doing something else with it in the background. I'll be fr though, I feel like I'm just barely learning how to read again. 100
Belle Sprout @bellesproot.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Tbh in general I feel like we take too many shortcuts with thinking and speaking. It helps when responding fast, but when was the last time someone said "I think the way we argue on the internet is good, actually?" 000
Belle Sprout @bellesproot.bsky.social · 23/09/2026LRT I do sincerely think that the way we abbreviate our thoughts, for rhetorical purposes or not, flattens a lot of nuance out of things. This is good for engagement, but bad for critical thinking. 100

Not liking a thing is fine, but you don't get to dictate what others enjoy, actually. Especially not within fiction. Be an adult. If you don't like something, move on. 31703695
Belle Sprout @bellesproot.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Reading is weird because you kinda *can't* do anything else while you're doing it. At least that's been my experience with trying to get back into reading this year. 140
Belle Sprout @bellesproot.bsky.social · 23/09/2026There's something to be said about how much content is designed to be consumed with a second screen. So much media feels really weird to watch if I'm trying to consciously not use my phone or do some other distraction. Repetitive dialogue, nothing happening at times, etc. 150

Belle Sprout @bellesproot.bsky.social · 16/03/2026I don't tend to run modules, but with a reference document like a rulebook I appreciate things like lists and bolded text when I'm looking up an unfamiliar rule as an indicator of "this is a glossary word" or similar. There's a lot of variance in how people read and run games for sure! 000
Belle Sprout @bellesproot.bsky.social · 16/03/2026Perhaps there's a case to be made that the book isn't what you should be reading out of at the table; there's certainly an argument that writing your own notes after reading during prep would help with retention. I'm just not sure the juice is worth the squeeze, though. 110
Belle Sprout @bellesproot.bsky.social · 16/03/2026It's taking me back to public speaking classes in school - I am not writing a script, I'm writing notes to refer back to so I'm not staring at the lectern during my whole speech/presentation. The paragraph form reads like box text, but it feels less conducive to play at the table. 110
Belle Sprout @bellesproot.bsky.social · 16/03/2026Been thinking about this over the past day. Looking at @levikornelsen.bsky.social 's variation got me thinking about it even more. When I'm running a game, I want to be able to quickly refer back to specific details - esp when answering follow-up questions. 100
Belle Sprout @bellesproot.bsky.social · 16/03/2026This is def solid. The full paragraph plain text approach seems wild to me, honestly. Maybe it depends on if you are the sort of person who writes a speech word for word vs reads off an outline. 110
