Gov. Bill Lee said he was "highly disappointed" in the botched execution of Christa Pike by lethal injection.

Tennessee attempted to execute Christa Pike for a 1995 murder, but the lethal injection failed. Pike survives and was moved to a medical facility.

Christa Pike was sentenced to death for the 1995 killing of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer. She is scheduled to be executed Sept. 30.

Tennessee officials asked the justices to allow the execution to go forward after an appellate panel halted it.

Christa Pike tortured and murdered a classmate in 1995. She had been set to die on Wednesday, the first woman executed in the state in 200 years.
