Types of Board Game xkcd.com/3235/
Comic: Types of Board Game. [Each panel has a person, a person with a ponytail, a person with shoulder-length hair, and a person with a white hat seated around a table with different board game and pieces on top. (1) Boring: PERSON 3: Each turn, roll a die and move your token. Turns proceed clockwise around the table until we all get tired and go home. (2) Abstract: PERSON 1: Each turn, you can place any number of red triangles or blue squares on a hexagon, or move any hexagon to a... (3) Hyperspecific Theme: PERSON 2: It’s October 2, 1814. I've also been designing merch for novels through The Merch Guild! I've done a few, but here's a cute one I drew for Legends & Lattes themerchguild.com/collections/...
A tall green-skinned female orc covered in scars is serenely pouring coffee out of a carafe into a mug. A shorter red-skinned female tiefling with horns and a devil tail is holding a tray with a cinnamon bun and coffee, looking fondly back at the orc. A child-sized rat below them is holding up a tray of freshly baked cinnamon buns with oven mitts on. They're all standing behind a table holding various coffee-making tools and a basket of bread. Behind them are shelves of coffee-related dishware and jars of coffee beans. A wooden sign reads "Legends & Lattes." Everything is drawn in a flat, graphic cartoony style in warm colours against a yellow background.Photo of a man with tattoos wearing the aforementioned artwork on a T-shirt.

Dimensional Lumber Tape Measure xkcd.com/3138/
Comic. Dimensional Lumber Tape Measure. [mockup of “2x4” piece of wood showing the dimensions as 1½“ by 3 ½“] Dimensional lumber sizes are tricky. A “2x4” is actually 1½“ by 3 ½“, and a “1x8” is ¾“ by 7⅛“. [two tape measures: one is labeled 12’, the other 12’*] If you know someone into carpentry or woodworking, get them our *dimensional lumber tape measure*. [A “normal tape measure” with even increments and a “dimensional lumber tape measure” with increments at different lengths for each inch] *Don’t tell them you got it*—just leave it in their toolbox. They’ll appreciate the surprise when all their measurements work out!

Snake-in-the-Box Problem xkcd.com/3125/
Comic. A snake slithers around a hypercube. No two non-consecutive parts of its coils can be on adjacent corners. [Three small 4-dimensional hypercubes showing disallowed options with one large cube with snake wrapped around it. Dimensions = 4. Max Length - 7.] Snake(N) = Longest snake that can fit in an n-dimensional hypercube. Snake(N=1, 2, 3…8) = 1, 2, 4, 7, 13, 26, 50, 98. Snake(N>8) = UNSOLVED. [caption] It turns out every scientific field has a key thought experiment that involves putting a cute animal in a weird box for no reason. So far, quantum mechanics and graph theory have found theirs, but most other fields are still working on it.

from today's post, on New York's and California's governors promising to redraw their electoral maps if Texas goes ahead and redraws theirs. please read the whole thing, thanks! link is here: bit.ly/4fwqlkM (and as always, there's a longer excerpt in the alt text)
let’s talk about Texas’s 1st congressional district. from 1846 to 2005 — 159 solid years — that seat was held by a Democrat. not one Republican was elected to the House of Representatives from TX-1. then, in 2005, Republicans gerrymandered the shit out of their maps. guess who was TX-1’s congressman from 2005 to 2023?

that’s right, it’s this gibbering gobshite.

Louis Gohmert. the low-wattage fuckwit who said we could fight climate change by altering the moon’s orbit. I shit you not.

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) asked during a House Natural Resources subcommittee hearing if the National Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management could change the orbits of the moon and Earth in order to help address climate change. Gohmert’s office did not respond to CNN's requests to clarify his remarks.

thanks to rigged maps, that’s the moron who represented the voters of TX-1 for almost twenty years.

Gohmert was the first Republican to represent the district since Reconstruction. Proving just how Republican the reconfigured district is, Gohmert was reelected seven times with no less than 68 percent of the vote.

and now Texas wants to rig their maps again. they want to send five more Gohmert-level nincompoops to the House, in order to preserve the Republican majority they will otherwise almost certainly lose next year.

yeah? well, fuck that shit and fuck it hard. Republicans, let me introduce you to Kathy Hochul and Gavin Newsom. they’re not playing patty-cake any more.

Democrats made a catastrophic error in 2021 by not passing the redistricting reform bill. Blue states should respond to this with their own gerrymanders but that is 1) not a lasting solution and 2) probably doesn’t undo the damage MAGA is doing with their mid-decade redistricting.

In a disgraceful act betraying millions of their own residents, Iowa, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming all write to oppose birthright citizenship.
INTEREST OF AMICI CURIAE For the past four years, disastrous immigration policies transformed every State into a border state by flooding them with illegal aliens, including criminals convicted of crimes in their home country, violent international gang members, and suspected ISIS terrorists. Illegal immigration imposes significant costs on the States and their people. And creating incentives for illegal immigration puts lives at risk. Allowing virtually anyone born on American soil to claim American citizenship creates incentives for illegal immigration and exacerbates States’ costs. Amici Curiae are the States of Iowa, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming which submit this brief in support of Defendants.
