Once upon a time I just admired nudis and sea slugs. But it was not enough. Now apparently I'm creating an R package to celebrate their colour palettes? 😅 First up, my Sydney fave, Hypselodoris bennetti. #rstats #nudibranch #dataviz 🦑🐙🧪 #marinelife #invertebrates

CDCPLACES 1.2.0 is live on CRAN 🥳 I wrote about some of the updates here: brendenmsmith.com/posts/cdcpla... I think the coolest new feature is the github action I was able to add that checks for changes in the API URLs provided by socrata. Way more reliable! #rstats #publichealth #episky

With the most robust rail network in the American Midwest, Chicago has the 2nd largest number of car-free households of any metro area (behind only NYC) Most of those households live around the L, especially the Red Line and western parts of the Blue & Green Lines

Any #rstats folks interested in testing out a package for SQL linting in R workflows? I made a package that wraps SQLFluff into R with reticulate. I've tried it on a few machines I own but would appreciate some experimentation before I try to send it to CRAN. github.com/brendensm/sq...

There are a number of issues with this analysis but I found one that I haven't seen anyone else mention: Kaufmann estimates gender ID from the FIRE data without using the survey weights When the weights are used as designed, the evidence for his core claim disappears

🚀 I made a tracker that shows when the Census Bureau adds or removes datasets from their APIs. Dashboard at www.hrecht.com/census-api-d... and follow @censusapitracker.bsky.social for major updates. I've been wanting to build this for years but now seemed an especially important time to keep track.

Might be the best github issue I’ve ever read 😂
A screenshot of an open github issue that reads: “Who could forget the classic 11 second
"skrrerrrrrrrrrrrt" on Halftime, or one of his many
"SLATT"s? Perhaps even some of whatever is going on in the beginning of Audemars? Even Nicki Minaj saying "Thugger" in the opening of Anybody. Thug is criminally underrepresented in this package.”

A bar graph showing the top ten adjectives used to describe colors in the xkcd color survey. This is among the top 949 most commonly identified colors. Light and dark are by far the two most common words. Others include pale, bright, deep, very, baby, dull, dusty, and pastel.

#TidyTuesday week 26 - It ain't much but it's honest work. I chose to look at the average differences in prices between conventional and reformulated gasoline -- which honestly I have not ever thought much about! Interesting to see such differences increase over the years. #rstats #dataviz
bar graph showing the average price difference between conventional and reformulated gasoline over time. The main metric is an annual average of this difference, showing how reformulated (cleaner burning) gasoline is more expensive. Over the years, this difference has grown larger. Interestingly, midgrade fuel seems to have the highest price disparity compared to regular and premium.
