once again thinking about the fact that this is all just OUT THERE and we can only see it through the eyes of telescopes
The background of space is black. Thousands of galaxies appear all across the view. Their shapes and colors vary. Some are various shades of orange, others are white. Most stars appear blue, and are sometimes as large as more distant galaxies that appear next to them. A very bright star is just above and left of center. It has eight bright blue, long diffraction spikes. Between 4 o’clock and 6 o’clock in its spikes are several very bright galaxies. A group of three are in the middle, and two are closer to 4 o’clock. These galaxies are part of the galaxy cluster SMACS 0723, and they are warping the appearances of galaxies seen around them. Long orange arcs appear at left and right toward the center.A massive cloud of gas and dust is seen in dark, dusty red, with its outer portions a translucent, ethereal gray. Several stars and distant galaxies are scattered throughout the image.A circular-shaped nebula with a complex structure. On the circle’s exterior, particularly on the left side of the image, are curtains of material glowing orange like fire. Interior to this outer shell is a ring of mottled filaments in bright pink, studded with clumps and knots. A greenish loop extends from the upper right of the ring into the central cavity. Translucent wisps of blue, green, and red appear throughout the image. The star cluster Pismis 24 lies within the much larger emission nebula called NGC 6357, located about 8,000 light-years from Earth. The cluster is seen here above a small portion of the nebula. The gas below the stars glows through ionization caused by intense ultraviolet radiation from the massive young stars within the cluster. The strong radiation and stellar winds from from these blazing, blue-white stars also pushes the nebular material outward, creating one of many low-density bubbles within NGC 6357.

Pillars of Creation. Gorgeous as always, this star-forming region lies approximately 7,000 light-years away and spans 4-5 light-years. Processed by Eric Emmons. www.astrobin.com/rgzt80/ 🔭 🧪
The image showcases the iconic Pillars of Creation in the Eagle Nebula, captured in stunning detail by the James Webb Space Telescope. The towering pillars of gas and dust, sculpted by the intense radiation and winds from nearby stars, appear in a rich tapestry of colors. The image reveals intricate details within the pillars, including newborn stars forming within dense pockets of gas, and jets of material being ejected from these young stars. This image offers a glimpse into the dynamic and awe-inspiring process of star formation, where new stars are born and shape their surroundings.

No mask, no veins, no blood … In this new, crisp image from #NASAWebb and Hubble, the smaller galaxy at left “slithered” behind the larger galaxy. The combo of mid-infrared, visible, and ultraviolet light allows us to see the galaxies in ghastly detail: webbtelescope.pub/48wDgQc 🔭 🧪
Two spiral galaxies take the shape of a colorful beaded eye mask. The galaxy at left, IC 2163, is smaller, taking up a little over a quarter of the view. The galaxy at right, NGC 2207, takes up half the view, with its spiral arms reaching the edges. IC 2163 has a bright orange core, with two prominent spiral arms that rotate counter clockwise and become straighter towards the ends, the left side extending almost to the edge. Its arms are a mix of pink, white, and blue, with an area that takes the shape of an eyelid appearing whitest. NGC 2207 has a very bright core. Overall, it appears to have larger, thicker spiral arms that spin counter clockwise. This galaxy also contains more and larger blue areas of star formation that poke out like holes from the pink spiral arms. In the middle, the galaxies’ arms appear to overlap. The edges show the black background of space, including extremely distant galaxies that look like orange and red smudges, and a few foreground stars.

🔭 Tomorrow is Halloween. 🎃 To celebrate last night I photographed the Skull Nebula (NGC 246). 💀The Skull Nebula is a planetary nebula, essentially a bubble of gas being given off by a dying star. The star is at the center of the nebula and marks one of the two "eyes" of the skull.
A telescopic image of a field of stars. Near the center is a bluish-gray bubble of gas. A star at its center of the bubble and another seen just to the right make the bubble look somewhat like a skull with two glowing eyes.

Mountains on a moonlit evening? Even better: a gigantic, gaseous cavity in space teeming with star formation known as the Cosmic Cliffs. This #NASAWebb view combines near- and mid-infrared light, which is why the scene may look familiar: webbtelescope.pub/3IWlkS0 🔭 🧪
A star field is speckled across the image. The stars are of many sizes. They range from small, faint points of light to larger, closer, brighter, and more fully resolved stars with 8-point diffraction spikes. The stars vary in color, the majority of which have a blue or orange hue. The upper-right portion of the image has wispy, translucent, cloud-like streaks rising from the nebula running along the bottom portion of the image. The cloudy formation shown across the bottom varies in density and ranges from translucent to opaque. The cloud-like structure of the nebula contains ridges, peaks, and valleys – an appearance very similar to a mountain range. Many of the larger stars shine brightly along the edges of the nebula’s cloud-like structure.

I wrote a comic about Shadow the Hedgehog! [Thread🧵] (Character Art by @citisstreets.bsky.social) (Background Art by @aeroartwork.bsky.social) (1/6) #comic #ShadowtheHedgehog #Sonic #SonictheHedgehog
A text box reads: “8:47 PM, March 7th 195X”

The title of the comic is written in the top right of the page, it reads “A Chat between Friends”.
Credits are also included “Character art by @CitisStreets, Background Art by @Aeroartwork, Script and Typesetting by @Saltydkdan” (Each artist’s Bluesky account is tagged in the original text of the post)

Shadow the Hedgehog walks into a room on the Space Colony Ark to find Maria Robotnik glancing out a window, seemingly at the planet below. He knocks on the wall to get her attention. She perks up.

Turning around she remarks, "Goodness- Sorry Shadow! I didn't think anyone else was around the observation bay."

Shadow replies "You've been up here for a while".A smile stretches across Maria’s face, "Hope I didn't make you worry! I just like to come up here when I feel a bit lost in my own-". She trails off as Shadow walks up next to her. "Thoughts..." she mutters.

Maria regains focus, once more looks out at the view of the Earth, and continues "I know... It really is beautiful isn't it? The Ark can sometimes feel pretty overwhelming. But this sector is always nice and empty. Not to mention the fact that it has an incredible view of the surface. It's one of the best features of the entire station if you ask me."
