Just hanging out with @baradlab.com, getting our vaccines. I love vaccines! The joy of NOT getting the flu or COVID is priceless. (I also enjoy being free of measles, diphtheria, HPV, and all kinds of other nasties.)

Interesting-- I always assumed that the flame was used to flame sterilize (e.g., a glass spreader). Didn't realize that wafting air currents were believed (falsely) to help sterilize. Bunsen burners’ reputation for sterilizing workplaces flames out www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Trump’s executive order on vaccines was based on “feelings”. In our new OpEd, @jimalwine.bsky.social and I share some facts about the numerous things that are wrong withTrump’s vibes-based EO. I am fairly certain that most of us would prefer health policy to rest upon scientific evidence.

Fauci's diary: "The POTUS called my cell & screamed at me because I had mentioned to the Press … that the duration of immunity for common coronaviruses was 6 mo to 1 yr and that … it is possible that we may have to use additional boosts." Fauci, the expert, was right. Trump was/is an irate idiot.

In 1863, Harriet Tubman played a key role in the Combahee River Raid. She was the first woman to lead U.S. troops in an armed assault. She helped free 750 slaves in that one event. Her story is exactly the American history that Trump and Hegseth want to erase. She was a true American hero.

Thank you for putting this project into context. Even without your thoughtful explanation, it is safe for us all to assume that peer-reviewed, NIH-funded science is rigorous, significant, and impactful. That is how peer-review has worked for decades. This grant should NOT have been terminated.

I serve on NIH study section, spending considerable effort sharing my expertise on the most meritorious research proposals. I use my knowledge judge significance, innovation, feasibility, methods. The OMB rule change would enable that expertise to be completely disregarded in funding decisions.

I strongly oppose the OMB rule change. I do not believe in political interference in NIH funding and award decisions. We all benefit from the very best science getting funded. To be clear, I oppose the harmful changes being proposed by Vought and Trump. I won't be silent or self-censor.
