Probably not enough public cachet to be worth the AI companies’ time to do things internally. But it would be a shock if we don’t see a lot of AI-assisted formal papers coming out. I know they’re being written.

Many people are wondering if there is any way for Cambridge to repair its reputation, short of immediately offering a professorship to a different black British professor in his 30s working on logical positivism? Its hard to see how else they could go forward really.

The version in Farquhar's The Recruiting Officer is all about the romance of escaping the servitude and the supposed bondage of wife and children for a life of adventure. But in the context of the play, about the terrible morals and behaviour of the recruiting officers, it's clearly a satire.

Why not both? Even the earliest versions of the song we have are wildly different from one another. There's a love song (about betrayal) and a recruiting song. The latter is, on the surface, very propagandistic, but it's infused with irony.

Should be ≤ɑ, obviously, since we might get a WO isomorphic to β from the application of choice.

Poincaré and Kant both more or less held this view about logic, although not about mathematics, and indeed it was their reason to think that mathematics couldn't be just logic.

This principle (that the cardinality of any two sets X and Y can always be compared) is actually equivalent to the axiom of choice, over ZF (or even a weaker base theory if you like).
120
Benedict Eastaugh @beastaugh.bsky.social · 09/04/2026
Any set X can be well-ordered (this requires AC), and this well-order is isomorphic to an ordinal ɑ. Let β be the least ordinal <ɑ which is bijective with X; then β is the cardinal number of X. We can then compare the cardinality of sets by comparing their cardinal numbers.

We are calling on the UK Government to not introduce a levy on higher education provider income from international students, reduce visa costs to attract global talent, and to review higher education funding to create a sustainable model www.thebritishacademy.ac.uk/documents/58...
• Discontinue the idea of introducing a levy on higher education provider income from international students.
• Reduce visa costs to ensure they are at least as competitive in cost as other leading science nations, and preferably have a target to become the mos competitive in the G7.
• Provide immediate clarity that the current time length for Indefinite Leave to Remain is kept in place for current and future Global Talent visa holders and their dependents.
