As a side note to this, there is zero cultural reason this Christmas Market is being “axed”. Quite: “In a statement they also noted that the event was becoming financially and operationally unviable.” None of which gave any pause whatsoever to the mouthbreathers inhabiting the bowels of X.

I’m sorry, but how in the actual fuck are we already on “they’re cancelling Christmas” in the middle of October?! Poppy-rage season has barely begun, and Mariah Carey isn’t even half thawed out. This is just silly.

You know it’s bad when even the bloviating sack of lies that was our Prime Minister becomes a sensible voice in a conversation.

We’ve thought about it, but my husband kind of needs to be able to see patients in very controlled environments, we wouldn’t be able to make it work for his job. 🐻

Watching The Traitors now, and I’ve realised I would absolutely have to be a Faithful. The thought of socialising all day, watching everyone finally go off to bed, and then having to attend another meeting for strategy and scheming? Nope. Fuck that for a game of soldiers.

I understand the distinction you personally make between the two words - I’m just not sure why that distinction needs to be universal or why we would need to police the language in this particular case.

I get that - but I don’t understand the narrative you’re trying to convey. When I say my home, I mean where I live, which in my case is a flat - and when buying a house, it would also be buying a home. When I talk about where I grew up, I also refer to it as my childhood home, not house.
140 4
The Bear @bearlypolitics.co.uk · 06/10/2026
I could be wrong, but I genuinely do think you can call them both. I live in a flat, but it’s still my home.
130 3
The Bear @bearlypolitics.co.uk · 06/10/2026
Fully get that - and I’m not painting it as the perfect era, however, in 2024 our mortgage on our flat nearly doubled when we came off our fixed term, so it’s something we’re not immune to now either. My point was about affordability at purchase, not nostalgiacising the whole decade. 🐻

Buy a small family home, no more than three bedrooms, for around 4 times my annual salary and not live in constant worry about the cost of shelter. That’s it. That’s the dream.

Reform UK took one look at GB News and decided that what it really needed was less subtlety. We’re about to discover previously unimagined quantities of the phrase “BREAKING: NIGEL FARAGE ABSOLUTELY DESTROYS…”

A year on, the Conservatives are doing better in the polls, but that looks largely down to Reform shitting itself quite visibly in public. So, looking at their conference, is there any substance to this “Kemaissance”? Honestly? I'm not convinced.

It took us ten years to get to the point where we could even think of booking a show in the Royal Albert Hall. Since getting here, it was always a bucket listy thing. Tonight, on arrival, we got upgraded from right at the top to a Grand Tier Box. I am an extremely lucky and grateful bear.

I live in London, and not nearly on a six figure salary. Is it expensive? Yes. Is it still a brilliant city to live in? Also yes. Do I have access to good public transport links, amazing amenities and am I surrounded by a lovely community of people? Yes. Does it have issues? Of course it does.

Early 80's. Me a bricky's labourer, my wife a student nurse. Our first house, £11,450. 10% deposit was roughly 11 weeks pay on my wage. Fast forward to today and 10% deposit on average house for someone earning average wages and you're looking at roughly 10 MONTHS pay. We had it way easier.

The average salary in 1976 was around £3,744 while the average house cost £12,700. That’s currently seven times the average wage vs around 3.5 times in the 70s. In London it’s even worse. We have to get to the point where we acknowledge that young people do have it significantly harder than

Hi Sue, In all fairness, many of especially Gen-Z do this as well - the difficulty is less what they’re spending their money on and more the fact that the cost of buying a property seriously outstripped salaries. The current average salary in the UK is £39k, while the average house costs £273k.

The pension conversation has turned, yet again, into Netflix and avocados. A quick thing though. Netflix: £20.99pm / £251.88pa Avo: 0.69p an avo - so £251pa if you had an avo every day. So, just over £500 a year Average 10% deposit? £27,300. So just 54 years to save there FFS.
