It’s Tuesday which means it’s volunteer day with @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social 😀 We had a bumper team of volunteers ( obvs. They heard I was back! 😬) to get stuck into the tasks at Little Haven wildlife site.

Back at Newton Five Arches Wildlife Site today, more raking and path work. A wet start as it was raining and everything was wet 💦 No butterflies but did see a very faded yellow Shell moth. #volunteer @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social

Our practical work party team were out at Nelson’s Wharf in Stockton today. A lovely day spent by the canal cutting and raking the banks. Lots of butterflies flying and several Clouded Yellow seen too 😀🦋 #volunteer #practical

Well done Naomi Addleton on finding a Holly Blue larva feeding on Erica cinerea (Bell Heather) in the New Forest. This is the first record of the use of this foodplant in the UK. Just look how pink the larva is - perfectly matching the plant! And a Lasius ant to boot!

Rare moth makes a comeback after more than 70 years! For decades, the only site where the Dark Bordered Beauty could be found in England was Strensall Common in Yorkshire. Now a second population has been rediscovered at the National Trust's Wallington estate, providing new hope for the species.

We were out at Long Itchington Cutting today cutting & raking the banks. Very dry & cracked ground but we saw a few butterflies including a Clouded Yellow! We were happy to be joined by 2 young lads today - very hard working & interested 😀 #volunteer @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social

At our Open Day we had a bird ringing session. Highlight was a spirited green woodpecker! Sadly no one came to see the ringing this time. Total were 73 birds, 67 new birds and 6 retraps.

Saturdays Open Day event was a great success despite the reserve looking very dry & consequently few 🦋 were seen. We love a challenge though & a lucky few saw the elusive Brown Hairstreak! Thank you all that came and made the day a success ⭐️

Do look out for the amazing Striped Hawk-moth! David Brown has managed to trap 2 in his Charlecote garden trap recently! He posted “I really hope others would catch some....they are clearly around...Keep trapping and check flowers in your gardens at dusk. Good luck...fingers crossed !” #TeamMoth
