Sun Yuan & Peng Yu "Old People’s Home" (2007)
Thirteen life-like sculptures resemble familiar politicians, admirals, generals, bishops, and dictators. Portrayed as frail seniors, they sit dozing off and drooling in electric wheelchairs.

“[A State Department official called the painting] ‘very woke’ and ‘aesthetically terrifying.’” The painting:
A Kehinde Wiley portrait of four Dominicans — two men relaxed on the ground, two women standing, one subject of each gender having white skin while the other has darker skin. The four appear immersed in a backdrop of flowers — an aesthetic signature of Wiley’s work.

Robert Rauschenberg "Automobile Tire Print" (1953) 🏛️ SFMOMA
In 1953 John Cage drove his Model A Ford in a straight line over twenty sheets of paper. The car’s front tire left a faint embossed impression, while the rear tire, which had passed through a pool of paint, deposited a juicy black tread mark that stretches in a diminishing line along the twenty-two-foot length of paper.

Kerry James Marshall is undeniably an exceptional portraitist. But look at his Judd inspired work at the Baltimore Museum of Art.
A soaring stack of boxes mounted to a gallery wall, evoke the sculpture of Donald Judd. The boxes feature colors of the Pan- African flag and Swahili words that identify the principles of Kwanzaa, the African American celebration of cultural heritage, family, and community.
