It's been a little bit, but the nice sunsets have returned #photography

the whole sky lit up #photography

Half Bonnet mushroom (Hemimycena) growing attached to the end of small, fallen piece of wild rose plant; white cap now flattened from original conical shape, stem is white in upper half and off white in lower part; a member of the Bonnet family, this mushroom prefers bits of plant debris as a host and typically requires microscopy to determine the exact species ID.

Spring Pinkgills make their entrance #FungiFriday #nature #photography #fungi 🍄📷

Spring Pinkgill mushroom (Entoloma vernum) - dark brown, conical shaped cap with a silky appearance atop a stem of similar colour. Genus contains a complex number of groups and species, many of which were previously considered Nolanea, but DNA studies have resulted in a number of taxon changes (this species often referred to as Nolanea verna prior to these changes). The name Pinkgill refers to the pink coloured spores found in these mushrooms.

Giving a presentation on my photos from the Scottish Highlands at a photography club tomorrow night, so thought I'd post an old image from that wonderful area here. These are the magnificent scree slopes spilling down the flanks of Beinn Eighe under a little fog, taken in November 2021. #Scotland

Yes, the water really was this color; yes, he chose this background to do his head-throwing display; yes, he is the most extra animal I've seen in a while.

A male Barrow's Goldeneye swimming with his neck extended, head thrown back and bill open. The water is golden-colored and has an interesting warped geometric texture with a few splashes of blue because it's reflecting a building that was, in turn, reflecting the lowering afternoon sun.

This is a white duck with a black back and black head. Six white spots break up the solid black of his back, while the black of his head is interrupted by his bright yellow eye and a teardrop-shaped patch of white just behind his black bill.

From dusk 'til dawn... This photo is from early June 2021, from northern #Iceland looking due north from Sauðárkrókur, in the short period when the sun is below the horizon. Probably the only time on that trip I saw sunrise (a few minutes later)!

An orange/red sky and a flat island in the distance, with patterns in the sea in the foreground. Taken during the short time when the sun has dipped below the horizon. A few weeks before midsummer, when it barely skims the horizon.
