A lot of folks are reacting with shock to this and it’s like, really? You didn’t know your communities were playing host to these kinds of people? Because some of us could have told you - DID tell you - that your communities were playing host to these kinds of people.

elon musk on: stealth aircraft (for the record: everyone involved with low-observable aircraft is acutely aware that they are not "invisible," they just have an rcs so small they can't be effectively detected until they are close enough to have already launched weapons and that is super useful.)

Make no mistake: this is a brutal, lawless agency, and most of that pain has been merely dispersed through the country rather than dumped on a single region. But the reason they’ve had to disperse it is because we beat them back.

Trump’s insider trading is, on its own, the worst corruption scandal in US history, with $$$ dwarfing Teapot Dome. So are Trump’s bribes-for-pardons. So is the Qatar bribe plane. So is all the Saudi money he (and Kushner) have pocketed. And the ballroom. And more. Each alone would be the worst.

This kind of talk has always seemed to impress certain segments of the political class, but now that he’s imploding, they look like gullible suckers. He’s just a lout, nothing more. He insults people because he isn’t smart enough for anything else. He’ll become more loutish as he circles the drain.

Please, by all means. In a healthy market you can try to collaborate. I'll undercut you. We should let more of those market dynamics actually work instead of what we currently have, which is one of the most overregulated industries that Americans actually interact with(healthcare probably the most)

On the surface, sure. But with other downsides. Housing has costs. We know a better way to address housing affordability and it starts with building more, denser housing where people actually want to live. Price controls should be a very limited and targeted tool

That's one part. Rents are what landlords can possibly charge and find paying customers for. Competition(more housing options) drives that down.

And I really hate the (heavily internet-driven) notion that there is some ideology out there that just has all the right answers to every problem written down on a list, and the way to fix everything is to announce your adherence to the ideology and then read off the list.

Inflation over the last year has been 3.5%. It’s hard to see how this sentiment can be explained by any “real” economic trend. It appears to be ambient political rhetoric about “affordability” and “grocery costs” filtering over and distorting people’s very grasp on reality.

Hard to put into words (I might) my anger at this Washington Post Editorial Board piece, which I share in its brief totality here.

Markwayne Mullin is right: Canceling TPS isn’t the end of the road
The DHS secretary takes heat from the right for acknowledging that immigrants alleviate labor shortages.Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin has taken unfair flak from nativist elements of the MAGA base.

Over the weekend, he expressed openness to the need for immigrants to alleviate labor shortages and said people who are in the United States on temporary protected status could pursue different forms of legal residency.

What will happen in the 2026 midterms? Sign up for Margin of Victory
Mullin is correct on both counts.

TPS was intended as a temporary measure for people who cannot return to their home country due to unsafe conditions, such as armed conflict or environmental catastrophe.

But the designation, which comes with a work permit, stretched from its original intent to cover more than 1 million individuals from 17 countries. The designations have been routinely extended even as conditions change on the ground.Rightly or wrongly, President Donald Trump campaigned on revoking TPS designations and won an electoral mandate to do so in 2024. In June, the Supreme Court upheld his authority to rescind the temporary status for Syrians and Haitians.

The result is that around 350,000 Haitians have lost their authorization to work in the United States. About 200,000 Haitians TPS holders were working before the ruling, including 8,000 caregivers and 13,000 nursing assistants. Native-born Americans have not been lining up to fill those roles.

Former immigration judge Andrew Arthur, a fellow at the conservative-leaning Center for Immigration Studies, said the end of TPS is “simply the beginning of a process and not the end of one.” Migrants facing removal have the opportunity to seek a different status in front of a judge.Mullin also ruffled some feathers on the right by challenging the narrative that immigrants take American jobs in “all industries.” He called for more work visas, explaining that some industries need the help. “We want to take care of Americans first,” he said, but “there’s a way to utilize labor where we’re not having the participation rate we need to, and we can plug those holes.”

That led to accusations that he wants “amnesty,” leading Mullin to insist on social media that he does not. The secretary is right to acknowledge that the U.S. needs these workers. It’s better for everyone to have foreigners working legally than living in the shadows.

A lot of people are getting mad at OP for this, but he’s right! These fast fashion and home goods companies could not exist without a large number of people who think “who cares if it falls apart after two washes? I’m only gonna wear it once” or people who redecorate every couple years.
QTs saying “Always saying to myself, I really need some
"low quality" goods to fill out my home and wardrobe” and “spot on dude exactly yeah this is why they're trying to make you subscribe to your toaster”

I've often thought it's the ancillary functions like water dispenders and ice makers that are prone to failure(seeing as they are all fairly bespoke designs even between different models from the same manufacturer it makes sense). The core function of the fridge still works
