I have never read any Moomin books because of that bloody programme.

The Polish stop-motion puppet version of The Moomins used to scare me. I think it was the combination of the animation and the narrator's creepy voice.

I grew up in South Wales, and there are several swimming spots and "nature trails" I will actively avoid, having seen what they were like in the 70s/80s. The site of the former steel works down the road from where I lived is now a massive housing estate. Nope, nope, nope.

It's time for my biannual Indian visa photo at Timpson. More accurately described as "make this woman look like road kill". Not Timpson's fault - it's the horrific collision of my face for radio with the prescriptive photo format.

Reminds me of seeing Peter Green and Friends in 2009. He was very much a shadow of his former self but clearly loving being able to perform.

Ballpoint pen, colored pencil, copic marker, and pencil.

Movie night. Our man is at home with his pet bird watching Batman Returns (1992). It’s the scene where Catwoman visits the Penguin’s raggedy office to plan Batman’s downfall. As a way to gain the upper hand during the meeting, she circles Penguin’s birdcage and puts the bird in her mouth. Our man is concerned that this will be an upsetting scene for his bird to watch. “Close your eyes for this scene,” he says. He’s watching the film in a beanbag chair. His bird has a small perch for the screening.

Toy Story 5 followed Hoppers. The latter is by no means a great Pixar film but is a work of genius compared to TS5. (I enjoyed the Beaver King retelling Hamlet as if Danes were beavers.)

Successful first day in Prague. Ended with an evening stroll, passing the Museum of Alchemy just as they were setting up a puppet theatre production of Faust in the courtyard! It was pretty great! Very much informed by Švankmajer (they did the "Padlookay! Pilookay!" routine, I grinned like heck)...

I think the most important news from history today is that it’s the 39th anniversary of the (US) release of The Princess Bride—and what better way to mark the day than remind ourselves of Cary Elwes’ story about André the Giant and the enormous, life-altering, earth-shaking fart?

Rather than wait 18 months for NHS op I went private - only sensible thing I've ever done!

When they initially found something I was put on the 2-week fast track, but because CA125 was in normal range got put on a waiting list. Took 12 months to see a consultant, who then told me it could still be C, because teratomas can mutate as you get older. /1

The wait between op and getting histology back was challenging. Going over things I think I had obvious symptoms for at least 3 years. You're blog has been invaluable. Thank you for your honesty.

Anecdotally, healthcare workers have told me that it’s quite common for older women who’ve been treated for “new” or substantially worsening IBS to discover that they actually have ovarian cancer - and it’s usually found at late stage.

Three months to the day since my op to remove something that turned out to be benign, but large enough that it was affecting my gait. Except for the bleeding, I had all these symptoms. It wasn't IBS. It was only by chance I got a proper diagnosis. Ladies, shout loud if something feels off.

I’d like to see posters with symptoms lists on the back of public toilet doors and in doctors’ surgeries.
OVARIAN CANCER
SYMPTOMS
→ Tummy pain
→ Bloating
→ Feeling full
→ Needing to pee more
Ovarian cancer symptoms can also include indigestion, back pain, changes in bowel habits, post-menopausal vaginal bleeding, and extreme tiredness.

Every year without fail, at infants school, Billy the Belisha Beacon would visit with his Legs Akimbo-style lollipop lady and entourage, and a zebra crossing. I ended up terrified of being mown down by cars at road crossings, because of a haunted, talking striped pole.
