Among many things the US improved after falling down by 14 early, their ability to contain the other French guards (Johannes, Astaire, Leyte) before eventually figuring out how to limit Williams was a huge factor in building this big second half lead.

Team USA somehow down by only two at the half. Great job staying in it, though how they solve the Gabby Williams problem in the second half remains to be seen.

Always kills me having to root against Gabby Williams, one of my favorite players ever along with Stewie. Winning players whose coaches would play them every single minute if they could.

Team USA women getting worked by France is sadly the least surprising thing, not sure even A’ja being here would help their lack of rhythm on offense. That said, Stewart, Gray and Young are still playing their asses off keeping the team in it.

I wish he had picked Denver or Minnesota, but I respect that this is where he wanted to give it one more go, as weird as it looks to the outside world. Hope at the minimum health allows LeBron one last good year, no matter how the 76ers end up performing.

Fox broadcast making tough observations like, why did this US team seem oddly lifeless from the outset? And then utterly lacking the courage to even refer to the international incident that was the Trump interference in the Balogun suspension.

Fair that in the final analysis, Belgium was always a better team than the US. But it’s also more than fair to assert that the political theater of the past few days gave an outsized motivational boost to an underperforming team, and distracted the home team to a hideous degree.

Also I don’t know if the Knicks really decided to zag while everybody else zigged in ridding themselves of two centers, or if they just really hated that second apron (def the latter). But losing Mitch to Boston is a big blow.

Is Walker Kessler worth over twice as much as Mitchell Robinson, let alone worth Lebron + unprotected picks and pick swaps? We’re about to find out!

I know it’s World Cup and NBA draft time now, but I’m still consuming tons of post Finals Knicks content. Special shoutout to @jadubin5.bsky.social for this wonderful postscript www.lastnightinbasketball.com/i-lived-to-s...

Knicks ripped their hearts out in Game 4 and tossed it in the trash. Spurs had nothing left when it counted in Game 5.

I’m relishing all the Knick highlights but I still can’t believe Fox went for that layup, one of the most boneheaded plays you can make with the lead and 11 seconds remaining.

Alvarado flipped the series, this after not being very good the previous series. Credit to Mike Brown for sticking with him over Bridges despite the ostensible disadvantage of two small guards having to defend the Spurs’ monsters.

OG flying tip after inbounding the ball and KAT step back three falling out of bounds two of the most unbelievable plays in that run, but the whole thing is still unbelievable to even imagine

Rough last minute from Josh Hart, as many good things as he’s done, smoked layup and letting Castle sneak in for the offensive board.

This is why Mitch Robinson being a competent backup was so crucial coming into this series. As good as KAT can be, even he can’t keep Wemby from out-alien-Ing everyone else on the floor. Wemby really showing off his gifts on some of these tips near the rim.

Bridges with five points on 7 shots and the bench combining for two points total are every bit as damaging as the Spurs shooting the lights out from three. Even if the Spurs cool off, NY has too few weapons to sustain a substantial comeback.

Nice semi-fake run by the Knicks. Cutting it down to 22 is something, but it’s meaningless if they can’t stop SA from touching the paint effortlessly the way they have all game.

Conv wisdom on why NY couldn’t win before the playoffs was KAT & Brunson being liabilities on D, but they flipped the script. Spurs found a way to flip it back, by using Wemby’s gravity, targeting Brunson more judiciously, and getting KAT back to his bad habits.

Robert H @bandwagonknick.bsky.social · 11/06/2026
This one is over, it’s all about trying to establish some small positives heading back to SA. Knicks got in their own head and Spurs hit every open shot and several that weren’t open. Just thoroughly outplaying NY.

Robert H @bandwagonknick.bsky.social · 11/06/2026
KAT’s body language has been horrible since getting those two fouls.

Robert H @bandwagonknick.bsky.social · 11/06/2026
Never going to count a team out this early, especially not NY…but this looks like the Knicks the first three games of the Atlanta series. Might be over sooner rather than later.

Also, the previews for the Finals matchup overwhelmingly pointed to Mitch Rob as being an X-Factor. Verdict so far: he just hasn’t been good enough.

Robert H @bandwagonknick.bsky.social · 11/06/2026
Yes, the refs have been horrible this game and the whole series. But having the margin be this thin between being in the game and getting your ass kicked this bad…that should not be the case if NY is as good as they’re supposed to be.

Robert H @bandwagonknick.bsky.social · 11/06/2026
KAT’s second foul was such unbelievable BS I can’t even be objective. The definition of marginal contact on his drive.
000
Robert H @bandwagonknick.bsky.social · 09/06/2026
Knicks wasted a fantastic OG game, solid if spotty Brunson game, and even decent minutes from Clarkson and Alvarado. Bridges was MIA once he got into early foul trouble, Shamet’s hot hand vanished, and in general NY just fouled too much and made too many mistakes on both ends.
000
Robert H @bandwagonknick.bsky.social · 09/06/2026
Not all his fault by any means, but KAT with more minutes (38) and less points, rebounds and assists in Gm 3 than Gms 1 and 2. Spurs guarded him far better and put Wemby in better positions to compromise NY’s defense. Mike Brown’s turn to make adjustments.

NY came out poorly to start the second half, but game really turned when Brunson committed a turnover with NY up 76-72 then committed his fourth foul shortly after. Last nine and half minutes, Knicks have been outscored 28-15.

Robert H @bandwagonknick.bsky.social · 09/06/2026
Nice job of the makeshift Towns plus bench guys lineup to hang in there with Brunson’s foul trouble, but giving up 35 points in the third quarter was not ideal. Have to tighten the defense up in the final period to take this one.

Robert H @bandwagonknick.bsky.social · 09/06/2026
42-24 second quarter against one of the most punishing physical defenses in the league led by the best defensive player. Can’t really describe how incredible this team is.

Robert H @bandwagonknick.bsky.social · 09/06/2026
Knicks started with a lot of jitters and Spurs, to their credit, came out with force and better focus. Knicks have settled down but Spurs are still finding huge driving gaps — clearly found something in the seams of NY’s gapping and hesitancy to give up the corners.

Robert H @bandwagonknick.bsky.social · 09/06/2026
Out of words for this Knicks team. Just keep chipping away. OG three FTs on a 3pt shooting foul. Alvarado jumper over Wemby + Kat FT. Clarkson corner three. Towns bucket in traffic. OG three in transition. 12 point lead down to 2 in a heartbeat.

Robert H @bandwagonknick.bsky.social · 06/06/2026
Biggest cliche in sports is “take every game one at a time” but these Knicks really play that way. Hair on fire every game, no matter how many they’ve won in a row or how big their series lead is.

So…I was more right on this one that I wanted to be. One of the worst offensive games Brunson will ever have, but he took the punishment all game and scored the tying and winning points.

Credit to Wemby for getting up off the mat to fuel that comeback in the second half. But it never looked like those last two jumpers were going in, and that last turnover he committed was brutal.

Knicks’ process and Spurs’ process switched sides the last few minutes, Knicks with too many slack offensive possessions and Spurs are taking advantage.

Robert H @bandwagonknick.bsky.social · 06/06/2026
I love that NY is winning, but really feels like the officials have lost control of this game. When even the announcers are commenting repeatedly on the excessive physicality, things are a mess.

Alvarado-Deuce-Bridges-Shamet-Mitch lineup *increases* the Knick lead after the Spurs get it down to 4. Too much time left in this game, but starting to wonder if there really is some special magic with this group.
