Not anywhere. There is not one place in this country where toxic drugs and open drug use is not a problem.

New: Here’s what went down behind the scenes 2 years ago when Vancouver Police changed their press release to make it look like my reporting in @thetyee.ca was false, and then launched an attack on X. Thanks to @policeoversight.ca for asking me to write about this bizarre series of events!

You would think that in a province where a kid shot and killed people at school because an AI chatbot encouraged them that a policy stopping AI in schools would be big news. But apparently not #bcpoli

It's a very strange thing. And to challenge her point, when was Toronto never like what it is today? And where is open drug use not happening? Is there a magical city which she can point to that has solved the toxic drug crisis?

and there was no real avenue for DULF to get approved to operate legally through s. 56 of the CDSA. she finds s. 7 of the charter was violated and that declaring s. 5(2) of the CDSA is unconstitutional.

It's not about access. It's about your audience. Politicians need your audience or they wouldn't do your show. I have had comms people tell us that our show is too insignificant to do, so they are taking a pass. (celebs work the same way). So access is fickle. Don't make that the basis of your job.

Whenever you have a politician on your show, ask the question that puts them on the back foot -- ask the question that they know is coming but will still hurt when you ask.

An individual in Canada used ChatGPT for eight months to plan one of the country’s worst mass shootings. Yet, if you listen to politicians and media, the real threat of AI is a fantastical scenario where it might wipe out humans in ten years. They need to stop getting fooled by tech deceivers.

The media has the AI threat all wrong
Generative AI is harming people today. We don’t need to waste time fantasizing about science fictional scenarios.

Just to catch up on AI: People using AI can: --create child porn -- learn how to create efficient killing scenarios -- make deep fake versions of real people -- hack into health systems -- seek therapy advice from chat agent that scrapes responses from reddit

SOGI is friggin high stakes for me. 1) I want my trans grandchildren, and all children, to be protected from bigotry 2) it's a slippery slope for all queer kids 3) it's a slippery slope for EVERYONE. First they came for the trans kids ...

I dunno if the BC Conservatives and One BC will come together at all to form a conservative block, but they do agree with scrapping SOGI 123, which is probably low stakes for voters at this point.

I think the issue is that we are replying to Will at different times and that impacts how we saw what he wrote. He added much later, but the post I was responding to implied violence. I delete my original reply as it muddies up how I now see what he was saying.

Once KLF was gone, the need for an alternative was gone. The real story is that conservative party members have basically been told their vote for party leader doesn't matter at all.

My plan was to tally how many "crisis pregnancy centres" had lost charity status or beefed up disclosure of their anti-abortion stances since tighter restrictions were announced in 2024. Instead I discovered the Liberals had quietly abandoned this promise. theijf.org/article/otta...

I really believe in the power of information. And that information can enlighten us all. But information can be twisted and bent to make things seem far worse (or better) than it actually is.

Doom scrolling on my phone doesn't help my recovery. And it actively hurts my brain which does not compute information the way it once did.

I had a stroke in October, one of those mini-strokes doctors like say. Well, it left me partially blind in one eye. And recovery has been uneven and at times difficult.

I understand the power of social media to connect people and to connect ideas. I do think there is value in it. But to me, it's outweighed by the constant extreme takes on here in order to draw engagement.

While this is true, it is makes it unsafe for pedestrians. Bike lanes do mostly make that safer, but for some weird reason, a segment of the population views bike lanes as a personal offence.
