On September 4, 1781, El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles de Porciúncula was officially established. "L.A. History: A Mexican Perspective" mural by Barbara Carrasco via @nhm.org: nhm.org/mural-rememb...
A close up of the mural shows La Virgen de Guadalupe holding a fountain pen and a piece of parchment that reads "1781 / El Pueblo de la Reina de Los Angeles de Porciúncula." A much smaller figure of a Spanish nobleman (Felipe de Neve, perhaps?) stands on her hand. She is looking down at a Tongva worker laying adobe bricks. The San Gabriel Mission can be seen in the background along with indigenous workers cutting wood and tilling the soil. What looks like a Spanish soldier is sitting on a horse, with a weapon pointed at the workers. Barbara Carrasco’s mural begins on the left with the portrait of a woman’s face. Her face is resting on one hand, while the other hand holds a feather. Her long flowing brown hair extends across the 80-foot mural. Woven within her locks are 43 panels featuring people, structures & moments from Los Angeles history, including local tribes before the Spanish conquest, Pio Pico, Tiburcio Vasquez, Biddy Mason, City Hall, Grand Central Market, Angels Flight, Santa Monica Pier, Union Station, the internment of Japanese Americans, the Zoot Suit Riots, the whitewashing of Siqueiros’s América Tropical, and Ruben Salazar.

American journalism and the American legal establishment are very similar actually; both demand all the rewards and accolades of fulfilling an important role in society while violently rejecting any of the obligations. Both defined by fawning sycophancy that they've defined as courage.

Looking down on the city port Skopelos on the island of Skopelos, Greece.

The white buildings are arranged in an amphitheater way, climbing one of the mountains. The sea is met with a large retaining wall. Lush green forests fill the landscape.

The movie Mama Mia was filmed here so I watched that shit on the flight home. Meh.

As his approval sinks, Trump will turn to the emotion from which his power derives: fear. Fear closes us off from each other, weakens what is our strength, deprives us of our future and only serves to secure his. The antidote is hope. An autocrat cannot defeat a hopeful people. Hold fast to it.
