The far right loves the U.S. like stalkers “love” their victims. They love an ideal in their heads—in this case, white and 19th century—and want to kill their love interest when they refuse to be that ideal.

I don't know anything about it other than it happened at a WMass lesbian bar. I see dozens of posts referencing it in ways that assume what actually happened is part of the cannon and everyone knows the reference, like it's Hamlet or something, but I missed class that day.

So you think that we should just keep reelecting the people who have done nothing to stop this, who lost to Trump twice, and somehow that is not a suicide pact idea of politics. Gotcha.

I just honestly can't get over that Save Women Sports, an anti-trans group could only find five trans athletes competing K through 12. Five. The NCAA president testified a year and a half ago or so that there were less than 10 college level trans athletes. What the fuck are we doing, people

And not for nothing, but: I have a full year of GPS data for those boats. The piece for Sonic Pavillion only uses 12 days of it (mapped 1 day to 1 minute). If anyone would like to host an installation version of "1000 Footer" with the full 6+ hour score let me know because I really want to do it.

Composing "1000-Footer" has been a great way to have spent my summer, and I'm looking forward to sharing it with everyone. I'll be at the presentations on Sept 12 and Sept 13, say hello if you see me! (For the Sept 14th presentation I'll be in front of my Acoustics & Psychoacoustics class.)

Sonic Pavilion Festival 2026 presents seven 24-channel sound compositions for the globally unique trellised speaker array at Jay Pritzker Pavilion in the heart of downtown Chicago. The result is a canopy of sound—a fluid sonic architecture that bridges the focus of a live performance and the majesty of the surrounding cityscape.

This year’s Sonic Pavilion is part of America250, a national series of arts programs on the occasion of the 250th birthday of the United States. Each work draws inspiration from different communities in the U.S.

Saturday, September 12, 1-4pm
Sunday, September 13, 1-4pm

All works play twice each day.

The score consists of themes for each of the thirteen freighters, and uses GPS data from the boats to move those themes across a map of the Great Lakes projected onto the 24 channel array at the Pritzker Pavilion.

"1000-Footer" is a tribute to the 13 thousand-foot freighters and their crews, the titans of the inland seas who primarily haul iron ore from the Mesabi Iron Range near Duluth to steel mills near Gary and Cleveland. The score incorporates recordings I made onboard one of them, the Mesabi Miner.

A lot of places have a 60 dBA noise ordinance. This is 58 dBA. I used to work in noise control and saw a lot of situations where a commercial property was generating just below the code limit but was still absolutely miserable for the neighbors.

M. Azevedo @azevedoaudio.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
The thing about this that really sucks is in many places, 60 dBA is the municipal noise limit. I would bet they spent enough money to get to 59.5 dBA at the property line and not s penny more.

Any many white collar workers are both white and working class. Do you end up sleeping in your car if you can't find a job? Congrats, you are working class. A large hunk of the giant truck "white working class" are business owners and distinctly not part of the working class.

I've seen a few like that. Someone couldn't bring themselves to cut the short side at 33 or trim the long side to fit at 45 and so they left the light of God and created an abomination.

You seem to not understand how much printed matter exists that was both not rare and not of enough literary, scientific or academic value to digitize. When a TV show buys these same lots of bulk books for set dressing and then throws them out after filming do you get this upset?
000
M. Azevedo @azevedoaudio.bsky.social · 23/08/2026
Well it is paywalled which is why I asked how they are determining that. In another article about this I read, it was very much someone asserting they "must be" rare by virtue of some being old. Was there more evidence here?

M. Azevedo @azevedoaudio.bsky.social · 23/08/2026
The reasons you outlined are that a professional bookseller is so unaware of the value of books that they are selling rare, valuable books in by-the-pound bulk lots. You are making assumptions based on nothing. Books are great, I own at least a thousand. Not every book is rare or valuable.
