I have met Earl Spencer many, many times, and always found him a gracious, humble and polite man. Unfortunately, when there’s a book to sell and The Mail need something juicy for a serialisation, recollections may certainly vary.

Sitting in the garden enjoying an early evening glass of wine when a Eurasian Hobby called and flew overhead. Fabulous.

I was working at a beautiful wedding over the weekend, when a lovely lady who was the photographer told me I had an interesting face! So she asked to take a photo of me, and here it is!

Somewhere over 36C, and it's eerily quiet. Sky is empty. No birds flying or calling, no insects visible. Everything seeking shade, or perishing. 'Dead heat'.

So sad to hear of the death of the great Jimmy Cricket today. He was a regular in our café in Hunstanton and a truly lovely man; with time, jokes and stories for everyone. Thoughts with all his family and friends.

Taken from my garden! I see Clouded Yellows every day now just by walking out of my door - and this week they have been frantically looking for legumes on which to lay their eggs. Are we at the stage in climate change when these butterflies will become a resident species? I think so !

1/2 Chinese Water Deer in a sea of Phacelia. Whilst wandering the local patch for a Hoopoo today, I was stunned by the numbers of these non-native deer. Double figures were seen in just two hours, including this one hidden in the middle of a field.
