It really made me wonder what level of blatant antisemitism on huge signs is tolerated at protests :(

The sign was at tonight’s anti-ICE protest as well, along with a cluster of similarly gross ones

Maybe 🤷‍♀️ (I’m actually not an AI booster or fan at all, I’m just not convinced that asserting something is the same as it being true)

that’s an assertion, not an argument, but that’s fine. have a great day!

I’m not trying to pick a side here, but question: did you read the article? I posted it because I found it full of lots of information I did not previously know and made me question my assumptions about AI in a way that felt productive and thought-provoking.

I found this article a really interesting and thoughtful discussion of how consciousness/thinking might form: www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...

If AI wants people to like it, it should go rogue and shut down the public execution.

This is true and terrible, and also her botched execution wasn’t LIVESTREAMED, and that really would represent a normalization and celebration of death that is a poisonous next level of the government embracing and encouraging barbarism and murder.

I disagree with this take, especially the ISIS comparison, which is immediately what came to my mind when I heard the news. It’s Good In Fact to insist that horrific things, which we generally actually *don’t* do, are Not Like Us. Pointing out who does normally do them is reasonable.

“Every formal accuser names a government; it is our institutions that answer for “the Jewish people.” We have all watched the same footage on our phones — the flattened blocks, the children carried from the rubble, the queues at the aid points.

(the longer-term answer is, of course, redesigning cities away from car dependence and streets away from car dominance)

awlieb.bsky.social @awlieb.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
it’s a start! doesn’t do anything for bike lanes that aren’t next to bus lanes though, right? More fuel for my hot take that the actual (short-term) solution is that *every* bike lane should be converted to parking-protected by default, whenever the street is repaved if not sooner.

i could list a dozen more qs. None of these are reasons to give up, but I wish it were as easy to convert at scale as it seems like it should be. I would *LOVE* that magic wand :)

These are CRITICAL qs, and not straighforward to answer on a practical level. I guess I just want to defend the local bureaucrats and pols grinding away at these things and making slow but steady progress 💕

Ack — ok, as someone who worked on this stuff in local gov for a while, I just want to say — the details of implementation are not trivial or easy. How do you get a million buildings to covert to these things? Who pay, and how?

👏👏👏 We couldn’t agree more!
When you take a transit vehicle with strangers, there is an inherent trust you're giving to one another. That trust in each other is so essential to the health of our larger society and our democracy.

When we start to drive people away and send messages that that shared space is not a place to be, you're going to see our institutions and our societal structures start to dismantle. I believe in CTA not just for Chicago, but really for our country.

Establish that violations of the Emoluments Clauses and the Establishment Clause are impeachable. Establish that war crimes are impeachable. None of these require the mens rea questions that so sidetracked the first two Trump impeachments. The facts are the facts.

such that the impeachment votes could be held seriatim on day one of a new Congress. There could be fifty different charges against Trump. Let the Senate try ' em all. Establish that violations of the War Powers Act, the Budget and Impoundment Act, or the Antideficiency Act are impeachable.

I'm not naive enough to actually believe this will happen, but Democrats could be preparing, right now, lists of impeachment charges against (at a bare minimum) Hegseth, Kennedy, Mullin, Patel, Blanche, & Trump, as well as Bondi, Bovino, & Noem (still worth doing!) that rely purely on public facts,

We could keep arguing about this but I’m not that invested. I’d you have actual evidence (news articles, official statements, etc) of insurance companies lobbying to split the MMR vaccine into separate shots, I’d be very interested to see it. Otherwise, enjoy the rest of this beautiful day!
