Getting some Chubby Bear Salmon Gobble playtesting in this morning.

Considering the degrees of jank involved in my modelling of them in FreeCAD they came out so much better than they had any right to.

I was really close to custom designing and hand making the normal "cuboid" d6s the game needs, but after getting a taste for how much work this was already going to be I changed course. I'd never compromise on the fish dice though, haha.

I have plans to also cut and block print player mats, after a playtest with my parents where my mom said it'd be nice to have them (thank you mom for adding to my workload, lol). Thankfully I have come to my senses and will be just ordering the cards + normal dice rather than hand making them all.

I learned how to make resin dice from scratch for this project and wow did I not fully appreciate how much time, money, and effort would be involved in trying to "mass produce" custom fish dice. From mold making, to casting, to painting in all the numbers and eyes.

I briefly awaken from my social media hiatus to share progress pictures of Chubby Bear Salmon Gobble! It's a push your luck dice rolling game where you play as bears at the Katmai National Park trying to catch and eat salmon to gain weight for the winter. First up, the fish dice.

This is what came with mine. No idea where you'd get a hold of one though. If it's ever helpful, ping me and I can try and measure the exact dimensions of the ring.

Luckily the one I purchased came with a little nylon ring that allows a modern off the shelf battery to fit. Or at least I assume it's off the shelf and easy to find, the seller included a single backup so I haven't had to go searching yet.

I guess a piece of actual advice: if you own a domain do the thing under "change handle" in settings that lets you use your domain *as* your handle. It acts as verification (you have to have access to the domain's DNS settings to make it work) and also it just looks cooler than the default.

Welcome to bluesky. I don't post very much (which makes me a great follow, imo) but when I do it's usually about TTRPGs, game design, mead making, and maybe some data analysis stuff on occasion. Here are pictures of my extremely doofus tuxedo cat Darien, and my extremely normal tabby cat Desdemona.
