The next time your calendar fills with back-to-back commitments and that familiar mixture of stress and satisfaction rises within you, pause. Ask yourself: “What am I proving, and to whom?” The answer may illuminate the path from busyness as validation to busyness as chosen contribution

I watched products fail because we built on unchecked beliefs. Discovery isn’t about building—it’s about questioning what works and breaking what doesn’t. Reflecting on how I run discovery now, inspired by many insights from Teresa Torres @producttalk.bsky.social

Obsession isn’t a flaw—it’s focus with a pulse. The world tells you to “balance,” but balance doesn’t build greatness. Obsession does. It sharpens skills, breaks limits, and fuels the work others call impossible. The question isn’t if you’re obsessed—it’s if you’re obsessed with the right thing.

The best product managers consistently break conventional PM rules. They 👇 / Ship less, but ship better / Say no more than yes / Prioritize long-term health over short-term wins / Focus on prevention over production / Value simplicity over features

A PM's 'No' isn't defiance—it's strategic clarity. Great PMs guard focus, align with the roadmap, and prioritize real value. Leaders: (During Performance Reviews) Back their decisions, defend their communication, and ensure they feel empowered. Saying 'No' is leadership, not a flaw. 🚀

You’re not a product manager until you’ve gotten your hands dirty—building, experimenting, failing, succeeding, and learning. It’s not about a certificate. It’s not about memorizing frameworks. It’s about real-world scars and wins. That’s where the magic happens.

If your leadership style is solely based on building consensus to avoid conflicts—thinking it’s empowering or ‘good enough’—hate to break it to you, but that’s not leadership. True leaders embrace tough decisions and navigate conflicts head-on.

Product Discovery isn’t one thing—it’s about intent: 🧭 Generative: Explore unknown problems & opportunities. 🔍 Evaluative: Validate / Test to prove what works. 💣 Destructive: Test to break what doesn’t. The strongest product mindset? Explore. Validate. Break.

Product managers: Your impact is often invisible. Engineers build. Designers craft. Sales close. But you align the chaos. Do you know your impact? More importantly: Do you show it?

A product refinement meeting can go two ways: > Chaos—like untangling a giant ball of thread while everyone argues over where to pull. > Clarity—like neatly rolling it into a spool, one actionable decision at a time.

Sometimes — Better product decisions start before talking to customers or experiments—but by challenging your assumptions. If your foundation is off, no amount of feedback or testing will fix it.

Celebrate a Feature Funeral ! Every product has a feature no one uses. Check your analytics, find one with <1% engagement, and kill it. Declutter your product to make room for something better. Progress starts with subtraction.

Founders: Don't give C-level titles out like candy; you can't go back from there. Hard to hire "over" the CTO, CPO, CFO or what have you. Be judicious about this stuff, even if titles "don't matter" (truth is, for most people they do).

AI is the worst PM—no empathy, no vision, no creativity. And that’s its power. It forces you to confront data without bias, simplifies your overcomplicated ideas, and optimizes relentlessly. Let AI handle the mundane; you lead with humanity. Worst PM + best partner = unstoppable.

1/ Misalignment doesn’t kill products. It quietly drains them of momentum. It lurks in the grind: - Teams with conflicting goals. - Managers approving projects without shared context. - Leaders debating strategy while execution stalls.

🎯 Not every idea deserves an experiment. Jumping into experiments too soon? You might end up validating bad ideas. Some concepts need research. Others need clarity or a bold vision. And some? They just need to be killed! So - Experiment with purpose! #productmanagement #productvoyagers

„We’re gathering feedback." A solid deflection when you know the idea isn’t landing. When to use it 👇 ”What’s the status of the prototype?" |__ We’re gathering feedback." Translation: We’re gathering the courage to admit it’s a disaster.

Most product tools help you build faster. @prodpad.com helps you pause and think. It doesn’t ask, ‘What’s next on the roadmap?’ It asks, ‘Why does this matter?’ For me, it’s a reminder: strategy isn’t speed; it’s clarity. Give it a try!

„We’re still in discovery.” A classic PM phrase for when nothing is actually happening. When to use it, to answer the below 👇 “Any updates on the feature we discussed?” Translation: We’re discovering how much longer we can avoid committing to anything concrete.

Decision-making is the crucible of product leadership. The stakes are high: every decision cascades across teams, customers, BIZ outcomes > In many organizations, decision-making often feels reactive and haphazard—a sprint to deliver something rather than an opportunity to drive meaningful change.

„It depends." 👇 The OG. The crown jewel. If you’re a PM and haven’t said this at least three times today, are you even working? When to use it:"Can we launch this feature next week?""It depends." Translation: It depends on whether the universe aligns, Steve. Spoiler alert: it won’t.

I love this sentence: ‘Let’s circle back.’ Polite, noncommittal, & buys time. ‘Can we add AI to the MVP?’ Let’s circle back after the roadmap. Translation: Let’s never speak of this again. PM life = dodging chaos. What’s your go-to escape phrase?
