We are tired of posting statements like these.

Today was an awful day at IGN. We were blindsided by the layoff of four union members and many more people across the organization who contributed years of their careers to making IGN an unparalleled voice in games and entertainment.

With each successive layoff, core parts of IGN’s operation continue to be stripped away. Today, IGN has decided to do away with many of our talented producers, editors, hosts, and other crucial roles, both within and out of the union. How many layoffs will occur before we no longer recognize the company we work for and the content that we make?

While we recognize the challenges the media industry is facing as a whole, it is difficult to understand how laying off valuable employees better positions us to meet those challenges. In turn, remaining employees bear additional workloads worsened by anxiety over the ever-looming threat of another layoff.

We are devastated, angry, and heartbroken for our colleagues.

I have no idea where this publication came from, or why they don't seem to get much engagement, but this is good journalism. I'm (thankfully) too removed to know how relevant the commentary here is to the equivalents in the gaming sphere, but it wouldn't surprise me if there are strong parallels.

It is infuriating how few people and publications in the gaming space have condemned the US and Israel's attacks on Iran. Gaming is one of Iran's most popular hobbies, and more than half of the population speaks English. The gaming community can't see itself as separate from these things.

Feeding people is the end goal, Sam. Powering your data centres is, at best, a means to that end. Or do you not see it that way? It's frightening if you don't. For example, if you thought that feeding human beings was just a means to an end--your ends, presumably.

I'm proud of the fact that, by its nature, Acclaimed Video Games orients itself against this kind of hype-based relationship with games. Games from 2025 aren't even listed yet, and when they do get added, they'll feature about as prominently as games from any other year.

This is basically why I've never believed that aggregating lists is a reliable path to truth. No list is ever simply a collection of good games; behind them is always a vision for what games should be, what they should do and who they should serve. And sometimes that vision kinda stinks.

This is a really good video. I barely knew who Kirk was before his assassination, and it's a sign of how performative the outrage was that he's almost completely irrelevant again, only a month-and-a-half later. Cruelty Squad actually has a few mentions on lists, though it's nowhere near top 1000.

Alyssa Mercante is an awesome games journalist. It's fair enough to be mad about Charlie Kirk's assassination, but maybe focus on the actual perpetrator, because a revenge killing of someone totally unrelated makes absolutely no sense. Please understand how insane and dangerous that logic is.
