![Another bolt hit an instrument panel near Anora, showering her with sparks and causing the duckling whizzing along with them to scream.
“That hatch,” Anora said to Jayro, thinking of the enormous pipe in the ceiling as she tried to run, hold her blaster, and consult her communicator, “it was water, I think.” A flood could slow down their pursuers.
“I got it. Take Coria on ahead.”
“On three,” she said, knowing Jayro could hear her over comms. “One…two…” she and Coria passed under the hatch. “Three!” she said, throwing herself against the wall and sending covering blaster fire down the hall towards the cops. Jayro hit the other wall, but instead of aiming at the police, he shot three quick bursts into the hatch.
Immediately, there was a hissing noise and a terrible stench as, not water, but sewage poured out of the pipe with a splatter onto the passage floor. Coria gasped in shock, covering her nose and mouth with her hands. Together, Anora and Jayro each grabbed one of Coria’s arms and sprinted up the sloping passage.
Behind them, Anora could hear disgusted shouts and yells from the police, and a series of wet splats followed by screams as their pursuers skidded into the mess.

Anora looked over the control panel, a plan forming in her head.
“We’ll make it,” Jayro nodded at Anora, understanding her intention.
“Door. Shoot. Run,” Anora murmured. “Fly home as fast as you can,” Anora whispered to the duckling, who beeped in response. Anora angled her blaster upwards and flicked her gaze towards the cop on the right, and then back to Jayro who nodded his understanding. Slowly, Jayro moved his blaster twice, indicating to Anora that he would take the other two they could see.
One…two he mouthed.
