Being autistic and hate losing an interest. Always so much more to learn and experience, however when I lose that drive for that, I simply can't force myself. The drive just ain't there anymore. The feeling of not being interested anymore isn't nice. It's bizarre actually and makes me feel guilty.

Being an autistic adult is WILD because people will lecture you saying you need to ask questions if you don’t understand something and then get very mad when you ask the “wrong” questions.

The pace of the world is the problem and not autistic me. Everything is about money, speed and efficiency and shames everyone else. Even if you're at maximum productivity it's do better next time. Everyone else is left to suffer with lots of difficulties to find a place for themselves and survive.

I know many people enjoy doing in-person author/reader conventions and events, but I cannot think of a more torturous state for an autistic author. Acting like an "on" human for hours, trying to sell yourself and your book, look eager but not EAGER, and trying to hear when 500 people are talking 🙃

I really do not have time to get into a newspaper headline despair hole today, *and yet*. It almost doesn't matter what the detailed content of the report actually says, if this is the messaging people will take away. Autistic people have always been here and we are not going anywhere.

“Why are you so quiet?” Autistic me: Because I'm in the company of someone who I don't really want to be in company with.

Abit late to this one but yes I'd be all over this, would be my go to if I'm having pizza. The only difference being would be BBQ base sauce as my first choice instead.

We've all heard "If you've met one autistic person, you've met one autistic person." However, the more autistic people you meet, the more you learn about autism. Not only how autistic people are different, but how often autistic experiences are shared—even by autistic people who SEEM very unalike.

Now that one takes me back. "Nobody likes you when you're 23" When this came out I was like ok this seems so far away. How times have changed.

I will then give myself a hard time about the song in the first place. It's one of the most strange feelings for me going from absolute joy of a song that gives you so much comfort to then feeling bad and guilty, but there you go. But it will happen again at some point, who knows when but it will.

Just had this experience again tonight. And it's very strange to me. Instead of being like ok and just forget about it. I will be sat here thinking for ages thinking, "why did I like it in the first place"

Part of my autistic experience is knowing that listening to the same song over and over and loving it like the first time listening to it is such an amazing experience. All until it isn't amazing anymore and I don't like It.

It is enough. I had to wait over 2 years to get the confirmation. Sometimes I think what's the point.. for just a piece of paper for being me.

Got more chance of me saying that to one individual rather than with a load of others engaging or listening in aswell. I think it also depends on the person who I'm talking with.

Of course this can still happen even after I’ve had a lot of processing time. But to limit or better still stop people misreading me and falsely believing that I was hiding my feelings the first time around, that would be not just good for me but for others too.

Autistic Adam @autisticadam.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Sure, I can sometimes respond quickly, but I might not have processed the situation enough to form my most authentic response. Even if I give what feels like my most authentic response in that moment, sometimes I might not be finished processing and not even realise this.

Autistic Adam @autisticadam.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I’d love it if taking time to respond to things and changing one’s mind could be normalised. Sometimes it can take autistic me longer than average to fully process things, and even though I try to give everything a lot of thought, sometimes I experience blank spots.

All the more reason to go buy peoples books! Also it's the best information you can get on autism, from autistics. They have taught me everything. 👍

Being autistic and telling someone you're autistic but they simple think you're just making an excuse not to do something is always.. shall I say a rather interesting experience. But let's not go there about if they can't do something.. then that's perfectly OK right?!

Some like to go out and be social. And some can't think of much things worse than that. Staying in = no expectation. Feels like a winning formula to me. #autistic

Being autistic but there is something worse than being alone and that is being with people that make you feel alone. I isolate most of the time. I find comfort in music and my interests instead of humans. Music and my interests are very important to me. I feel free when I'm alone.

Autistics are far more likely to suffer from sleep problems and anxiety than those that are not. The stats on this are quite high. It can be difficult to switch the brain off so that you can settle down for the night. In order to help me achieve this tonight, soothing flute music is in order.

Being autistic is knowing I won't fit in with others. Even after years of trying. All it will do is lead to burnout. Is that worth it ? I don't think so. At least with my own space and minimal time around others anyway it reduces the risk of anxiety or anything else for that matter massively.

This is something I'm constantly trying to improve on in real life. It amazes me how people are so surprised by how someone is in real life. No pressure here, doesn't feel like im looking for a social script. Anyway keep doing what you're doing Vanessa. Love your art, I find it very soothing.

What I mean about throwing people off. They seem to think I'll talk like I do here. Do people forget here that I can edit what I write a million times and no pressure in a short amount of time to say what I think ? Do other humans not realise this ? Maybe. Maybe not. No wonder I prefer dogs.

Part of my autistic experience is often not being able to find the words or, if I can find them, not being able to speak them. This is a regular acurance in a public setting. It feels like there’s some kind of block, like my brain is so busy that there’s been an abrupt stop.

Autistic me is getting such a nice feeling now that the cooler nights are starting to happen and I'll actually get some decent sleep. Something I struggle with in the summer months, even more so this year in the UK. Autumn is my favourite time of the year when my body temperature is just right.
