Longhand slows me down, and that makes the first draft better, so most of my pages end up being material which I won’t throw out entirely. I also find that if I want to write something with meat to it, longhand helps. For whatever reason, it’s easier to avoid brevity when writing with pen and paper.

Thank you & great question on word counts. I find them to be a rather poor form of motivation. Most of writing is rewriting. I’m deep in a first round of revision, so tracking numbers of words is distracting & fruitless. My first drafts are written longhand. No word counts there either. Just hours.

Consistency is had by waking up at 6:30, dropping my child off at school by 8:30 and then making sure I write until it’s close to time to go pick her up.

What’s your writing schedule? Here’s mine: Mon-Thur: 9am to 2:30pm Fri: 9am-1pm Large breakfast. Skip lunch. Realistically, I’m at my writing desk by 8:40am most days. After a month of my new daytime writing routine, this seems to be what’s working. #authors #writers #amwriting #writingcommunity

Thanks for the info. Tons of these editor/beta reader accounts do this same spiel. I try to be polite in case there’s a human who’s just desperate and doesn’t get how this industry works when it works legitimately. But yeah, I may just start reporting them instead of deflecting.

I use to uno reverso and send these kind of scammers my fee schedule, and when they say no, I’d offer a discount. Was more fun before AI. Nowadays I ignore the spam because it’s not even a human I can screw with.

Yeah, I’ll make changes if needed (fix any errors they catch). After that, it’s pretty much a final copy edit and proofread before I enter the query trenches. I’m trying to make money so I can’t be spending cash I don’t have on editors (my publisher will have an in-house team of editors anyway).

That’s a question I get asked surprisingly often. My book is close to 200,000 words. That’d be too expensive for any editor worth the cost. Even if it was shorter, a senior and several junior editors at the publishing house will look at the MS before it ships to bookstores and libraries. Thanks.
